78Kanao Asaoka, 88, of Lihue, a counselor with the state Office of Veterans Services, died. He was born in Lihue. He is survived by son Mark; daughters Trudy Merchant, Iris Faria and Ardis Ueki; sister Mitsuko Niwa; 12 grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren. Services: 4 p.m. Saturday at Lihue Hongwanji Mission. Casual attire. No flowers.
