FAMILY PLACED OBITUARY

Dana Diaz
DANA DIAZ 68, passed away April 19 peacefully at home in Mesquite, NV. She was born March 20, 1944 in Ft. Meyers, FL to Vernon and Kathleen (Wisenbaker) Maynard. She married her sweetheart, John, after a whirlwind courtship and traveled throughout the country for 23 years while her husband served in the U. S. Marine Corps. They would celebrate their 47th Anniversary on June 10th. Dana tended to her 5 children's cries as babies, made their clothing as tots and youngsters, held on to them when they cried from heartbreaking experiences and taught each one what true independence is and the importance of survival with dignity. As a teenager in Hawaii she tended her mother, Kathleen, bringing her back to health after battling severe despair. She was the eldest of 5 sisters and they all looked up to her as their Mother. Dana was loved and adored by her children and husband John. Traveling every 3-4 years as a Marine Wife was an adventure for Dana and she looked forward to each move. She enjoyed the structured profession of accounting, working for the founders of El Torito Restaurants, and Toshiba Corporation. She loved to visit her 4 sisters spread throughout the country in AK, HI, OH, AL and TN. She loved the desert and its serenity, having lived in Barstow and Twentynine Palms, CA and at her final resting place in Sun City Mesquite, NV. In FL, she loved the roar and thunder of the Space Shuttle, Titan, Atlas, and Delta rockets. And she gave visiting family the treat of their lives with a close-up front-row seat to government, NASA and commercial launches. She loved cross stitching and quilting and the joy it brought her in making special gifts for her loved ones. She loved her cats, Peaches, Lucky and Phenix. She loved riding her bicycle on the Rails to Trails routes throughout the U. S. She loved to travel with her sisters to such places as: Hawaii, New York City, Niagara Falls, Washington D.C., Amsterdam, Belgium, Paris, Alaska, Hilton Head, S.C., Cayman Islands, Disney World, St. Augustine, FL, and Williamsburg, VA. One of her favorite travels with her husband was a cruise, paid for by her 5 children, sailing out of New York to Boston and Nova Scotia to celebrate their 40th Anniversary. Her husband loved taking her to China, and Europe where they celebrated 45 years of marriage. Dana trained very hard for the 2006 Disney Marathon and finished in time to earn the prestigious Mickey Mouse Gold Medal. Dana loved everyone she came in contact with and everyone loved her as well. Dana was preceded in death by her father, Vernon Maynard and step-father, Andy Anderson.
