Herbert C. Carvalho, 78, of Honolulu, a retired longshoreman and a Navy veteran, died in Honolulu. He was born in Hilo. He is survived by companion Olga Kessler; sons Damien H., Jason E. and Jared P.; brother Jessie H. Newsome; sister Bertha I. Newsome; six grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren. Visitation: 10 a.m. Tuesday at Star of the Sea Catholic Church, 4470 Aliikoa St., Honolulu. Services: 11 a.m. Casual attire. In lieu of flowers, donations suggested to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, Honolulu.
