JOSEPH MAURICE KANOA
86, of Aina Haina died April 14,
2012. Born in 1926 in Kekaha,
Kauai, son of Joseph and Julia
Kanoa.
Attended Kekaha Elementary School and went on to Waimea
High School. He was a proud member of the class of 1944 and had many fond memories there. During the war, he and his classmates strung barbed wire along the seashore from Waimea to Polihale. He served in the U.S. Army at Schofield Barracks and was discharged as a staff sergeant.
He was employed at AmFac in Honolulu and later for Devoe Paint as a manager for many years. During those years was active in many organizations including Lions Club, Chinese Chamber of Commerce, Kalihi
Businessmen Association, Portuguese Chamber of Commerce, Hawaiian Civic Club and the Kalanianaole Athletic Club.
Joseph was married to Bertha Lanakila Kiaaina Kanoa before she passed on in June 2007. They were married 61 years. Survived by sons; Maurice-Wayne, Lyle (Stephanie), and J. Marvin (Momi), sisters; Juliet Tita Aiu, Lorraine Puanani Like, Ellen Darling Young, brother; Mervin Buddy, 10 Grandchildren and 12 Great-Grandchildren.
