JEAN JOLENTA U’ILANI “U’I” “BOOTS” (SANTIAGO) CHARBONNET

Age 66, of Waimanalo, passed away peacefully at her home with her family at her side on May 3, 2012. She was born in Honolulu on July 7, 1945. She was predeceased by her husband, Arthur S. Charbonnet III, and brothers, Francis W. Santiago and Edmund A. Fiesta. Survived by her sons, Jesse Arthur ‘Aulani (Lyn) and James Sidney Alaka’i (Princess); brothers, Jacinto “Pancho” Santiago Jr. and Auggie (Betty) Fiesta; sisters, Sheba (Tommy) Lau and Cookie (Howard Pacheco) Kawamoto; and four grand-children.

She was formerly employed with Hawaiian Tug & Barge, the Hawaii State Archives, and most recently with Keolu Elementary School and the Kupuna Program at Enchanted Lake Elementary School. She enjoyed line dancing at Windward Mall and other venues including being a line dancer instructor at the Kaneohe Senior Center. She shared her love for hula with others when she became a hula halau member of Na ‘Opio A Me Na Kupuna O Koolau, as well as a hula dancer for Kainalu, and countless other musical groups, and performed in Waikiki as well as the neighbor islands and Japan. She was also a member of the ‘Opihikao Serenaders, Kane’ohe Senior Center Hui, and the Waikiki Elks Club Hawaiian Singers.
