JUNE ROSS (EKSTRAND) SNYDER

Of Kailua, passed away peacefully in her home on Sunday, April 22, 2012, two days after her 93rd birthday. She was born on April 20, 1919 to parents Elton W & Mabel E Ekstrand, who later established the family home in Manoa where she and her younger twin siblings were raised. After graduating from Roosevelt High School, June attended Armstrong Business College in Oakland, California, before returning to Hawaii and working as a teller at Bank of Hawaii.

A resident of Kailua for the past 56 years, she is preceded in death by her husband of 40 years, James K. Snyder, her sister, Elizabeth “Betty” Ekstrand Thompson and her brother Thad Ekstrand. She is survived by her daughter, Nancy Casey, two grandchildren, four great grandchildren and several nieces & nephews.

Memorial services will be held at Kailua Beach Park on Saturday, May 26th at 7:30am. She will be taken by outrigger canoe into Kailua Bay where her ashes will be scattered to join her husband and friends. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Hawaii Humane Society, 2700 Waialae Ave., Honolulu, HI 96826

Age 79, of Waipahu, Hawaii, passed away May 6, 2012 in Aiea. Born July 1, 1932 in Waipahu, Hawaii. Karen was retired from Leeward Bowl.

ROBERT “SCOTTY” MEECHAN

ROBERT “SCOTTY” MEECHAN
92, passed away on April 23rd surrounded by family members in Bend, Oregon. He was born in Kirkintilloch, Scotland, on September 15, 1919. During World War II he served in the Royal British Navy on the famous British battleship, the Warspite, and was involved in the Battle of Normandy at Juno Beach. He was a member of the Normandy Survivors group.
Robert came to the United States and married Colleen Smith on June 24, 1946. They lived in Oregon and California and later moved to Hawaii in 1965. He retired from Owens Corning in 1980 and in 1981 became the owner of Associated Insulation Company in Hawaii from 1981 until his retirement in 1996. From 1991-1992 he served as President of NIAC (National Insulation Contractors Assn) and later served 2 terms of the WICA (Western Insulation Contractors Assn). While in Hawaii, he founded PICA (Pacific Insulation Contractors Assn) and was past President.
He is survived by his wife, Colleen Meechan; sister, Helen Stuart of Scotland; daughter, Nancy (Simons); sons, Howard and Kevin Meechan; nine grand-children; and eight great-grand-children. ERNEST L. DOBBS D.D., PH.D.

Passed April 13th, 2012 in Honolulu after battling complications of COPD for over twenty years. Formerly of Alabama and NYC Dobbs was raised by his great-grandmother, Dona Phillips Wood Reilly, of Etowah County, AL, who was a traveling companion of Eleanor Roosevelt. At a young age, he visited Europe, Africa, and the British Isles, having been present at the Coronation of Queen Elizabeth II.
Dobbs studied at Birmingham Southern University, where he was a member of Beta, Beta, Beta chapter of Alpha Tau Omega, and at The University of Paris, specializing in history and early French. During his early career, Dobbs was an Associate Professor of French at The University of Saigon and Secretary to the French Ambassador to the (British) Court of St. James. After moving to New York he served on numerous Boards for the Arts and worked as a publicist, literary agent, book editor, and Vice President of stories for Columbia Pictures.
In 1990 Dobbs moved to Hawaii where he met his life companion Daniel Char and was able to give full attention to his lifelong hobby of growing orchids. After arriving in Hawaii, Dobbs established AIDS Project Hawaii and served as Executive Director.
He is survived by his longtime companion of 21 years Daniel K Char and many close friends. Private burial service at Diamond Head Memorial Park on May 16, 2012

Was Born into this world on Dec. 5,1929 In Honolulu and Departed this world On Apr. 28, 2012. He is survived by Wife Judith I Kaapuni, Daughter Joey-Lynn K. (Steven) Springel, Hanai Son Darryl K. Chang, and 2 granddaughters Des’ree and Danielle Springel. He retired from the City and County Of Honolulu in 1994. He also retired From the Varsity Theatre after working There for over 30 years. He was on numerous commercials such as Longs Drugs, Celebrity Tuxedos, Coors and Many Others. He also acted on Good Bye Paradise with Joe Moore. (small Part) The Local Newspaper Highlighted Him as well as the Mid Week, giving him The Distinguish title of “Mr. Aloha”. He Was also recognized by the Rotary Club For “Live the Aloha Spirit”. He later Helped out at the Food Distribution in Kahalu’u while raising his grandchildren. He was A Loving Husband, A Wonderful Father & Father-in-Law and The BEST Grandpa (Papa) to his Precious Little Girls. Services will be on May 27th 9:30 am at the Key Project Pavilion 47-200 Waihee Rd. Casual Attire.
