JAMES KIMO CAMPBELL

James Kimo Campbell passed away February 16, 2012 of complications from ALS. He was 65. Kimo was born in Los Angeles on February 11, 1947. He was raised in Ewa Beach, attended Punahou School, served as editor of the school newspaper in 1964-65, and continued to be an avid follower of the Buff ‘n Blue and proud member of the Class of 1965. He relocated to Northern California in 1966, attended the College of Marin and DC Berkeley. He was an activist student leader while in college, and worked for a time as a journalist for the Marin Independent Journal. Kimo was elected to the Marin Community College Board for four terms and ran a small publishing house, Pueo Press, which specialized in Hawaiian history and culture. As a philanthropist, he supported numerous community groups over the years through his foundation, the Pohaku Fund, focusing on environmental protection, civil rights, and activities and organizations perpetuating native Hawaiian culture. He was an active board member of various organizations throughout his life, supported progressive political candidates and issues, and never forgot his Hawaiian roots. He is survived by his wife, Kerry Tepperman Campbell of San Rafael and his two children, Mahealani Campbell of Sebastopol and Kawika Campbell of San Francisco, and a loving community of friends and family. In lieu of flowers, donations in his name can be made to the Hawaii Community Foundation and/or Punahou School Class of 1965
Endowed Fund.

She was a resident of Hawaii for the past 10 years having lived in Mililani and Honolulu. Born in Omak Washington in 1952, she moved to Sunnyvale California in 1954 where she grew up and went to school graduating in 1976 from San Jose State University with a BS in Business Adm.

She was an energetic and highly accomplished Real Estate agent for Prudential Locations LLC and taught classes in home ownership at Hawaii Homeownership Center.

She and Oscar were very active with the Hawaiian Humane Society and worked closely with the children at Vancouver House.

A “Celebration of Life” for Christy will be held May 25, 2012 at Borthwick Mortuary, 1330 Maunakea Street, Honolulu. Public viewing will be at 5:30 in Mauka Chapel with Services starting at 6:30pm; catered reception to follow.
