FAMILY PLACED OBITUARY

Joseph David Ahuna
JOSEPH DAVID AHUNA Passed away peacefully surrounded by those he loved his wife, children, and siblings on May 3, 2012 in Indio, CA. He was born in Honolulu on November 1, 1943. Son of Joseph Ahuna II and Maude Waikiki Ahuna, he was a member of IATSE Local 665 and worked as a Grip and Key Grip for the film and television industry in Hawaii for many years. When his work took him to California, he worked as a Key Grip with IATSE Local 80. Later in his career he was elected president of Local 80 and retired as an assistant business agent in 2010. He is loved and survived by his wife Joanie Ahuna, daughters Joelle (Eddie) Lee and Michelle "Kahea" (Kalani) Ching, son Joseph David "Kawika" Ahuna Jr., stepson Derric (Gracie) Teran; and his 8 grandchildren Jasmine and Jordan "Kamalei" Lee; Jonathan "Ashton", Justin, Jonah, Joshua, and Joel "Pono" Ching; and Jadyn Ahuna. He is also survived by brothers Dickie (Irene) Ahuna, Archie (Fern) Ahuna, Walter (Donelle) Ahuna, and Pachec Yamashiro; sisters Doreen (Richard) Bell, Jo-Ann (Arthur) Carreira, Brenda "Leimamo" (Richard) Pua, Patricia "Patsy" (Kaleo) Kaina, Maude "Pi`ilani" (Steven) Tanaka, Donalyn (Leonard) Naihe, and Corinne Ahuna; and numerous nieces and nephews. Services will be held at St. Ann's Catholic Church in Kane`ohe on May 30, 2012. Viewing is from 10:30am-12:30pm. Eulogy and mass will begin at 12:30pm. A private burial will follow. Aloha attire requested. In lieu of flowers, to honor the importance of education in his life, the family suggests donations to Ke Ali`i Pauahi Foundation, 567 South King Street, Suite 160, Honolulu, Hawai'i 96813 in memory of Joseph David Ahuna to establish a scholarship in his name.
