Age 86, of Honolulu, passed away peacefully with her husband and family around her on May 15, 2012. Dorothy devoted her entire life to her family. Her influence in this world can be measured by the unconditional love and guidance she gave to her family and friends and the successes in their lives.

Dorothy is survived by her husband of 65 years, Ding Kong; children, Linda Kealoha, Maj. Gen. Darryll Wong, Col. (Ret.) Derrick Wong, and Wendy Howell; 8 grand-children; 2 great-grandchildren; brothers, Henry Au and Robert Au; sisters, Chew Young Lum, Audrey Au, Betty Leong, Clara Chun, and Eunice Denyes.

Wilson-Taylor, Nancy A.; Born Nancy Aiko Uchibori in Honolulu in 1941, passed away in Santa Rosa, California on May 19, 2012 after a long battle with cancer. She grew up in Kailua, Hawaii and graduated from Kailua High School in 1959. Nancy was employed for many years at First Hawaiian Bank until she moved to California in 1984. She was an executive administrative assistant for the Bechtel Corporation, assigned to the office of the Chairman, until she retired in 1994. Nancy was a quiet, sweet and gentle person who loved roses, birds and other wildlife. She was an accomplished artist and photographer, but never knew how good she really was. She is survived by her husband, Benjamin Taylor, brothers Kenneth and Bert Uchibori, half-brother Glenn Uchibori, and step-sister Karen Byrnes.

Friends are invited to attend a Memorial Service on Tuesday, June 12, 2012 at 2:00 PM at St. Patrick’s Episcopal Church, 9000 Sonoma Highway (Highway 12), Kenwood. A reception will follow. 93 of Honolulu, our beloved Mother and Grandmother passed away peacefully at her home surrounded by her family on May 23, 2012. She was preceded in death by her husband of 54 years, Henry E. Lutz and her brothers Louis and Edward Wiethe.

She is survived by daughters, Bonnie L. Kealoha and Sheree L. (Charles) Moffat; hanai daughter, Toni S. Reeves; grandsons, Justin K. Kealoha and Charles Gavin Moffat; granddaughters, Crystalyn N. Kealoha, Jasmine H. (Mike) Nickerson and Tara M.K. Moffat; numerous nieces and nephews, great nieces and nephews and great, great nieces and nephews.

Mom opened her heart and home to anyone in need, she will be missed by many.

A “Celebration of Life” service will be held on Wednesday, June 6, 2012 at 5:00 p.m. at Central Union Church. In lieu of flowers, the family ask that donations be made in her memory to: Central Union Church, 1660 S. Beretania St., Hono. HI 96826. Aloha attire.

84, of Greers Ferry, AR born July 16, 1927 in Wailuku, Maui, Hawaii, passed away at Seven Springs Nursing Home in Heber Springs, Arkansas on April 12th, 2012.

One of eight children of Ching Hing and Louisa Kong. She was married to Robert L. Gruber for 66 years. Dora was preceded in death by her parents; her sisters Irene Chew Lan Len and Winifred Bow Yuk Mahi, and her brother Ah Sheong Dang.

She is survived by her husband Robert; son David Gruber (Sharon) of Maumelle, AR.; two daughters Carol St. John (Scott) of Monticello, Ar., and Deborah Pearce of Tumecula, Ca. Her brothers Edward Ching of Pearl City Hawaii and Donald Ching (Helen) of Waimalu, Hawaii, sisters Muriel DeLawder (Doug) of Frederick, Md. And Kam Brenno (Kris) of Nipomo, CA. are surviving. Three grand-daughters, three great-grand-children, and numerous beloved nieces and nephews also live with her memory.

There was a memorial service in Greers Ferry on April 28th at 2pm at Holiday Hills United Methodist Church. Memorials may be made to the Greers Ferry Volunteer Ambulance Fund at 892 Shiloh Road, Greers Ferry AR 72067.

ROCHELLE “ROCKY” PITLUCK

Rochelle “Rocky” Pitluck, of Honolulu, Hawai`i, passed away peacefully in her sleep on May 22, 2012, with her family at her side. Born August 30, 1910, Rocky had just celebrated her 72nd Mothers Day, and was three months shy of her 102nd birthday.

Rocky was born in Chicago, Illinois. She was a ballerina with a Chicago ballet company for several years. Over the years, she lived in the states of Tennessee, Washington, New Jersey and California, until she moved to Honolulu in 1992 to be with her son and his family. She had been under the loving care of the staff of Hale Ho Aloha Nursing Home for the past 15 years.

Rocky was preceded in death by her former husband, Dr. Harry Pitluck of Spokane, Washington. Rocky is survived by her sister, Dorothy Besserman of Aventura, Florida; her son, Wayne Pitluck and his wife, Judy Pyle, of Honolulu, Hawai`i; Grandson, Aaron Pitluck and his wife, Corrin, of Budapest, Hungary; Granddaughter, Raleigh Ferro and her husband, Greg, of Reno, Nevada; Great-Grandson, Solomon Musa Pitluck, of Budapest, Hungary; Great-Granddaughter, Danica Punahele Ferro, of Reno, Nevada; former daughter-in-law, Deanne Pitluck, of Honolulu, Hawai`i; and her son’s sister-in-law, Mary Ann Belke, of Honolulu, Hawai`i.

Rocky lived a full and fulfilled life. She was a wonderful and loving mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. She always uplifted the spirits of anyone around her, and she truly enjoyed the company of old and new friends. She had an easy smile and laugh, and an extraordinary sense of humor. We still laugh out loud recalling her story-telling. Anyone who met her was touched by her in some meaningful way. We shall all miss her very much.

Private family services will be held.

Richard F. Avila passed away on March 17, 2012 in Pinehurst,NC. Rick was born in Chicago on January 31, 1944, graduated from Reavis High School in Oaklawn, IL. and received a Bachelor of Science Degree in Engineering Physics from the University of Kansas. He enjoyed a 26 year career in the US Navy, serving on submarines including the USS Gudgeon, USS Thomas Edison and USS Patrick Henry; as well as on the submarine tender USS Proteus. After traveling to ports around the world, he retired as Commander from the US Pacific Fleet Submarine Force at Pearl Harbor in 1988. He went on to work in Hawaii at Lion Coffee and Straub Clinic and Hospital. Leaving Hawaii in 1994, Rick lived in San Jose, CA, Las Vegas, NV, Prescott, AZ, and Pinehurst, NC. He is preceded in death by his parents Francisco Parocua Avila and Patricia Metzger Avila, and son Robert Russell Avila. He leaves brothers Russell (Liane)Avila and Robert (Darlene) Avila; half siblings Mary Theresa Pabon, M. Frank (Sherry)Avila, Richard Avila and Daniel Avila; children James Avila of Dallas, TX, Richard F.( Jackie) Avila, Jr. of Abington, MA, and Elena (David) Strom of Pinehurst, NC; and grandchildren Colby Avila, and Natalie, Parker and Kiefer Strom. He is deeply missed by many cousins and friends. A burial at sea is planned.

Harry Urise Hillen Jr. of Honolulu passed away peacefully April 17, 2012. He was a retired dredge mate and member of The Operating Engineers, Local 3 for more than 50 years. Harry’s love of the ocean was surpassed only by the love he had for his wife, children and grandchildren. His kind and giving heart will truly be missed.

Survivors include wife Erla, daughters Paula “Lani” Follner (Matt), Cynthia Seno (Craig) and Desiree Hillen (Raymond Ikeda); son Chadd Hillen (Kelli) and grandchildren Kaimi, U’ilani, Heidi, Moani.

A celebration of Harry’s life will be held on Saturday, June 9 at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, 219 Lunalilo Home Road, in Hawaii Kai. Visitation begins at 10 a.m. with service to follow at 11.
