DR. ELIZABETH MCCANN ADAMS
88, died May 22, 2012, in New Hampshire. A psychiatrist, she treated children and adults in the Hawaii corrections, mental health, and family court systems. In later years she volunteered for the American Cancer Society in Honolulu. The Hawaii Medical Association named her the 1996 Physician of the Year. She was an independent thinker with high standards, a quiet volunteer who asked for little but gave much. In 2000, due to illness, she left her home in Kailua and spent her final years with her children in California and New Hampshire. She is survived by Drs. Jess and Sallie Adams of California and Dr. Ellen Bassett and Jim Bassett of New Hampshire; grandchildren William, Barbara and Henry Adams of California, and Jesse, Johnny Bassett and Hannah Bassett of NH. At her request, there will be no services. Memorial donations may be made to the American Cancer Society Hawaii Pacific, Inc., 2370 Nuuanu Avenue, Honolulu, HI 96817.
