Helen Toyoko Fujita, age 89, passed away at Queen’s Medical Center on May 12, 2012. Helen was born in Honolulu on June 16, 1922 to Shigeru and Sato Shiota. Up until her death, she served as principal of Waialae Japanese School, an institution which she and her late husband, Reverend George M. Fujita, founded in 1955. She is survived by her son, James N. (Gail) Fujita; granddaughters Lori Ann K. (Vince) Stanec, Lea Ann T. Hershman; grandson Lance K. (Kara) Fujita and six great grandchildren. Visitation will be held on Saturday, June 23, 2012 at 9:00 a.m. and services at 10:00 a.m. at Hosoi Garden Mortuary. Aloha attire. The family requests no flowers.

BETTY YONEKO TAKE HSU
Betty Y.T. Hsu, 84, of Mililani, died on May 3, 2012. She was born February 5, 1928 in Tokyo and raised by her adoptive parents, Yoshitaro and Tane Take. In 1949, she married David S. Hsu, a Chinese language translator for the US government in Tokyo, later moving to Okinawa.
She began teaching Ikebana flower arranging in 1970 and served as board member of the Sogetsu Okinawa Chapter. Mrs. Hsu moved to Hawaii in 1983, and served as a board member of the Sogetsu Hawaii Branch and a board member of the Ikebana International Hawaii Chapter while remaining a member of the Sogetsu Teachers Association in Tokyo.
In 1987, Mrs. Hsu attained the highest teaching degree (Riji) in the Sogetsu School and was presented the name “Sobei Kai” by the headmaster to designate her flower club, which went on to become an important part of the Sogetsu movement in Hawaii. In 1997 she received the Certificate of Meritorious Achievement Award during the Sogetsu School’s 70th Anniversary Commemoration ceremonies in Tokyo.
Determined to further an education cut short by World War II, she passed the GED and obtained an AA Degree from Leeward Community College. A lover of people, she strove to share the beauty of art and nature and spread friendship throughout the world.
She is survived by her husband, David; sons Doug (Karen) of Los Altos, CA; and Mitch (Vickie) of Herndon, VA; four grandchildren, Wendy, Becky, Mitchie, and Carly. Visitation: 10:00am June 20th at Mililani Mortuary, Makai Chapel. Service: 10:30am. Reception: 11:30am. Private burial to follow. Aloha attire. No flowers.

Early April 13, 2012, Nancy Kim Oi Lum, joined those she so dearly loved and missed in Heaven. Her wishes of spending her final days at home with family was honored. She left a legacy of kindness, grace, compassion and finding good in everything and everyone.
Nancy K.O. Lum leaves behind husband, William P.C.; son, Brian, daughter, Donna Lum Kagawa, brother Philip Mau, sisters Gladys Abang and Irene Wong, and four grandchildren.
To our family and friends thank you for the unconditional support and prayers. Her journey has lead her to a new home where she forevermore will be in our hearts and spirit.
