PETER LEONG
76, of Las Cruces, New Mexico went to be with the Lord on May 16, 2012. He died peacefully surrounded by family at La Posada Hospice in Mesilla Valley, NM. Services were held at Immaculate Heart of Mary Cathedral presided by Bishop Ramirez and 6 other celebrants.
He was born on January 11, 1936 in Honolulu, Hawaii to the late Tai Hung and Rose Yuk Kwai Lee Leong. Peter graduated high school from St. Steven's Seminary. After 4 years in the United States Air Force, he attended the University of Hawaii, Manoa where he received an electrical engineering degree. In August 1959, Peter married Donna Smith, then a R.N. at Kapiolani Hospital. In 1965, the family moved to Las Cruces, N.M. where he was employed at White Sands Missile Range until his retirement in 1993.
Peter is survived by his wife, Donna; sons David (Laura) of Rio Rancho, NM and Joe (Linda) of Mililani, HI; daughters Annie (Randall) Kalama of Honolulu, HI and Priscilla (Kari Maier) of Las Cruces, NM; ten grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren. He is also survived by his brothers Paul Leong of Kaneohe, HI and Leonard Leong of San Diego, CA; sisters Lorna Daniels of Arlington, VA; Rena Miriam Paaoao of Nanakuli, HI, and Constance "Connie" Leong of Honolulu, HI; numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins on Oahu, Maui, and Molokai. Preceeded in death by his son Steven M. Leong and sister Tina Gomes of Honolulu, HI.
