GENEVIEVE ENGLISH GILDERSLEEVE

Our beloved Genevieve, known to her family as “Chelly,” was born in Paia, Maui to Heine and Kalei English on May 03, 1918; she passed away peacefully in her sleep in the early morning of August 10, 2012. A graduate of Mills College, currently known as Mid-Pacific Institute, Chelly was a very gifted artist and fashion designer. She was well-known for her fine work in Ceramics, oil paintings and high-end Fashion. Our Granny Chelly will always be remembered dancing to the music she loved, with a flower in her hair, silky red lips, a snazzy broach on her lapel, dressed to the nine with a beautiful bright Smile on her face!
Survived by an only child, her daughter and best friend, Lealani M. Puana (husband Rudolph H. Puana). She was also survived by four Grandchildren: Rualani (Kent) Simpson, JoAnn (Bruce) Vidinhar, Katherine (Louis) Kealoha and Dr. Rudolph (Dr. Lynn) Puana; Eight Great-Grandchildren: Maile (Bobby) Nguyen, Jodie (Mark) Brems, Douglas (Kim) Simpson, Chad Vidinhar, Shaun (Kirsten) Vidinhar, Kristina Kealoha, Samuel Puana and Genevieve “Gigi” Puana; Five Great-Great-Grandchildren: Blayze and Mika Nguyen, Kailani Simpson, Joseph Brems and Bowen Vidinhar; beloved nephew and niece Bill and Carola Drew, and family and friends. Pre-deceased by her first husband Mr. Joseph B. Schwartz of Romania and her second husband Mr. Charles T. Gildersleeve of Hudson, Illinois.
A devoted Parishioner of the Carmelite Monastery and St. Ann’s Church in Kaneohe, Chelly was also a member of the Ana Malia Catholic Society #208. In Celebration of Chelly’s life and love, we would like to thank the following for their love and support: St. Francis Homecare & Hospice, Dr. Jennifer Ito, Sue Griffin-Seeweker, Mrs. Mary Zanakis Pico, Borthwick Mortuary and the Murdock Ohana. Private services will be held by her family.
Be at Peace Granny~ May the Angels lead thee into Paradise. May the Martyrs receive thee at thy coming and take thee to the Holy City. May the choir of Angels receive thee and Proclaim to the Heavens that a humble and faithful servant are thee; and thus, shall Our Divine Heavenly Father Grant thee Eternal rest and Peace everlasting. Amen.
