ANITA “OMA” CHUN

Posted On October 7th, 2012 -

ANITA “OMA” CHUN
83, of Honolulu, Hawaii died peacefully at her home after a long battle with cancer on Friday, September 21, 2012.
Oma was born on March 6, 1929 in Teisnach, Germany to Edmund and Anna Heigl.
She is survived by her sisters Rosemarie Duvall of Pasadena, Maryland and Kathrina Billing of Killeen, Texas.
Although her early years growing up in Germany were difficult because of World War II, her life changed when she met her future husband David YS Chun who was a corporal in the US Air Force. It was his kindness, generosity, and persistence that brought them together. They married on September 24, 1947 in Landsberg, Germany and left shortly after to begin their life together in Hawaii.
Oma loved to travel and was able to return to her beloved Germany several times. She also enjoyed many trips to New York, Chicago, San Francisco, Washington State, and Los Angeles.
Oma also had a profound love for the holidays. Halloween and Christmas were two of her favorites. She took great pride in decorating the entire house so everyone would enjoy the seasons to the fullest. There was always room for more decorations in her home and no space was left untouched by the things that Oma loved. Too much was never enough for the holidays.
Oma’s greatest loves, as well as the source of her greatest joy, were her children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren. She is survived by her 5 children: sons Peter, Henry (Mary), Michael, and daughters Judy (George) Vinluan and Caroline (Seth) McKinney; 12 grandchildren: Scott and Cory Chun, Ryan, Kevin and Kurt Vinluan, Janelle Hamada, Jennifer and Aaron Chun, Summer Chun, Jason Endo-Chun, Todd and Emma McKinney; 9 great grandchildren: Cayla Chun, Kawika Chun, Maia, Keola, Kenji, Kelsen and Kendall Chun, Jacob and Matthew Hamada.
She was predeceased by her husband and love of her life David YS Chun.
Services will be held at Hawaiian Memorial Park Mortuary on Monday, October 8, 2012 with visitation from 5:30pm to 6:30pm with services to start at 6:30pm. A funeral mass will be said at Saints Peter and Paul Church in Honolulu at 9:30am on Tuesday, October 9, 2012. Additional visitation will be allowed from 8:30am to 9:30am. A private burial will follow.
