MARGERY JACKSON
March 27, 1915 – October 25, 2012 Margery M. Morris Connolly Jackson Born March 27, 1915 in Luther Township, Ontario, Canada Growing up in the small Ontario town of Fergus, Margery met the love of her life Thomas Leslie Jackson (deceased May 21, 2004). They dated in high school and married while Tom attended Theology School at Victoria College, University of Toronto. Meanwhile Marge learned the fashion industry as a seamstress, dressmaker and milliner. Marge and Tom had eleven children all of whom survive her – 5 Daughters Janice Higgins of Penticton, B. C. Canada; Marney Cherry of Richmond, B. C. Canada; Sally Hastings of Mililani, Hawaii; Kathy Jackson of Sparks, Nevada; Susan Uwekoolani of Kahului, Hawaii; and 6 Sons Hugh Jackson of Ballynulto, N. Ireland; Thomas Jackson of Cranbrook, B. C. Canada; Joseph Jackson of Kitimat, B. C. Canada; David Jackson of Winnipeg, Manitoba, Canada; Jim Jackson of Edmonton, Alberta Canada; John Jackson of Victoria, B.C Canada. She is also survived by 28 Grandchildren; 31 Great Grandchildren and 1 Great Great Granddaughter. They had a fascinating life together moving from Toronto to the wilds of the Peace River, then to the mission fields of Trinidad, British West Indies. After a calling to Wesley United Church in Edmonton, Tom joined the Royal Canadian Navy. Marge, ever a good “navy wife” cared for their ever expanding family, creating a home at each posting, sewing most of the clothes for the family, producing nutritious meals, and helping all her children grow to their full potential. After retiring from the military, Marge and Tom and their five youngest children moved to Waimanalo, Oahu where Tom served as a Methodist Minister. During this time Marge worked as a volunteer at Castle Hospital and also in the gift shop at Sea Life Park. There followed churches in Ewa Beach, Kauai, and Makawao Union Church on Maui. For 20 years Marge worked as a volunteer at Leahi Hospital Thrift Shop until she was 90 years old and she found the 2 hour bus ride from Mililani too difficult. Marge’s large family is saddened by the loss of their matriarch but are proud of her as a model of service to others, the church and the public. Marge was respected in her community and an inspiration for faithfulness within the Mililani Presbyterian Church. She was a strong but gentle person who cherished every individual in her large family to the last of her days. Memorial Service to be held at Mililani Presbyterian Church November 10th at 2:30pm. Ashes to be scattered at a future date as Marge donated her remains to the John A. Burns School of Medicine, University of Hawaii. In lieu of flowers a donation may be made in Marge’s name to St. Francis Sullivan Family Hospice Center (www.stfrancishawaii.org) or a charity of your choice.
