Kathleen Marion Kelly

63, died peacefully on October 25, 2012 at St Francis Hospice in Nu’uanu, Honolulu, after her long struggle with breast cancer. KK was born February 20, 1949 in New York. She proudly graduated from Interlochen School of the Arts in Michigan, and earned her Nursing degree from the University of Hawaii. She worked tirelessly as an RN at St. Francis and Straub Hospitals in Honolulu for over 25 years. She was predeceased by her parents John M Kelly Jr, and Marion Anderson Kelly, and throughout her life she shared their activism in many causes including civil rights, the environment, working conditions, and Hawaiian land issues. She is survived by her sister, Colleen, niece Corey Smrekar, nephew Dana Smrekar, and grandniece Maggie. As desired, her body was donated to the University of Hawaii Medical School. A family gathering will be held on Sunday, November 18. Donations in her honor can be made to St. Francis Hospice or Revolution Books.
