Paul Edwin "Pappy" Gruwell, 78, of Honolulu, an electrical engineer and a Navy veteran, died in Leahi Hospital. He was born in Des Moines, Iowa. He is survived by wife Caroline "Carrie" Moniz; sons Gregory, Gary, Glen "Pat" and Grant; daughter Gina; stepsons Jeffery and George Moniz; stepdaughters Kari Monte, Claire Menges, Christie Arquette and Jona Ayres; brother Robert "Bob"; 24 grandchildren; and 15 great-grandchildren. Visitation: 10 a.m. Monday at Elk's Club in Waikiki. Celebration of life: 11 a.m. Scattering of ashes to follow. Casual attire. Additional information for an obituary published Wednesday.
