Born in San Francisco, California in 1937, to parents Boyd and Roberta MacNaughton, Trudie was raised in Honolulu where she graduated from Punahou School in 1955. Taylor, of Highland Park, New Jersey. They married in 1965 and returned to Honolulu in 1971 to raise their family. Trudie managed the Garden Café at the Honolulu Academy of Arts for many years and then worked in the Education Department before retiring in 1997. An active volunteer, Trudie devoted her time and energy to several causes in Honolulu. She was a docent with the Honolulu Academy of Arts, a member and past president of The Garden Club of Honolulu, a board member and former chairperson of the Lyon Arboretum Association, a member and past president of P.E.O, and an active member of the Colonial Dames of America.
