CATHERINE EMBREE HARRIS
Teacher, administrator, historian, author. Born October 30, 1919 in New York, died December 1, 2012 in Honolulu. Catherine attended Punahou School and Swarthmore College. She worked in the Japanese relocation center in Poston, AZ during WWII where she met her husband, Arthur L. Harris (dec’d Sept. 2001). She subsequently published her book Dusty Exile: Looking Back at Japanese Relocation During World War II, 1999 (Mutual Publishing, Honolulu). She was an active supporter of the Japanese Cultural Center of Hawaii and many charitable functions in Honolulu. Catherine is survived by three children: Robert B. Harris, Villa Park, CA, David L. Harris, Alexandria, VA, and McLaren L. (Susan W.) Harris, Chelmsford, MA, three grandchildren, and seven great grandchildren.
