FAMILY PLACED OBITUARY

Terry Satsuki Milhaupt
TERRY SATSUKI MILHAUPT Was born to Thomas and Grace Unemori in Kailua, Hawaii on May 15, 1959. She died in New York City on November 21, 2012. Terry attended Kailua High School and the University of Hawaii. She studied at Sophia University in Tokyo under a Crown Prince Akihito Scholarship, where she met her husband, Curtis J. Milhaupt. Terry received a Masters Degree from Columbia University and a Ph.D. in Art History from Washington University in St. Louis. One of the world's leading experts on Japanese textiles, she staged museum exhibitions, lectured widely, and conducted research on Asian art and textile collections around the world. She was due to begin a position as Associate Curator of Asian Textiles at the Metropolitan Museum of Art, which plans to stage an exhibition based on her forthcoming book on Japanese Kimono (Reaktion Press). Terry was first and foremost a loving wife and mother, active in New York baseball leagues and school functions with her beloved son, Conrad. She touched countless lives with her spirit of optimism, generosity and compassion. Terry is survived by Curtis J. Milhaupt, her husband of 27 years, and son Conrad, both of New York City, mother Grace Unemori, sisters Joyce Unemori and Karen (Harris) Matsushima, nephew and niece Reid and Gail Matsushima, all of Oahu, brother-in-law John Milhaupt, sister-in-law Kris (Dave) Frost, and nephew and nieces Michael and Nicole Milhaupt and Sarah and Rachel Frost, all of Wisconsin. A Celebration of Life will be held on Friday, December 28 at 6:00pm at the home of Kelly and Patrick La'a, 46 Puukani Place, Kailua, Oahu. Donations can be made to the Make-A-Wish Foundation of Hawaii in her memory.
