DAVID T.W. CHUN
Formerly of Kalihi, son of the late Lee Ong and Uriel Chun, died at age 64 on Nov. 2 of a heart attack at his home in Senaca, South Carolina. A graduate of Farrington High School and UH Honolulu, David went on to earn his master’s degree in microbiology at New Mexico State University and his Ph.D. in plant pathology from Michigan State University. He retired as a microbiologist from the U.S. Dept. of Agriculture, Agricultural Research Station in Clemson, S.C., where he specialized in cotton research, making important contributions in area of cotton dust bacterial populations, including work with international and national scientists on the subject of microbial effects on cotton quality. He was active with the Clemson Kennel Club, as owner of Leonberger dogs; enjoyed wood-working, dancing, and cooking. He leaves his sisters Gloria Chun Hoo (Stan) of San Jose, CA, Bonnie-Belle Chun of Pasadena, CA, Carol-Sue Hipsher of Rossmoor, CA, and brother Douglas Chun (Sharon), of Honolulu, nieces Sarah-Lee Chun and Nicole Leilani Chun Hipsher, well as aunts Yuk Yao Yip, Yuk Ip Fong, Yuk Chan Nuuhiwa and Meitsi Chun, and many other cousins and family members. Burial service at Valley of Temples in Kaneohe Thursday, Dec. 27 followed in Honolulu with Celebration of Life at Willows.
