Remembering ALBERT WILLIAM EVENSEN August 13, 1925 – December 24, 2012 Albert filled his 87 years with dignity, love of family and service to the community. He was born in Honolulu, attended Roosevelt High School, University of Hawaii at Manoa, served in the US Army from 1945 – 46, and earned a law degree from the University of Virginia. Al served in the Hawaii Territorial Legislature and was elected to the 1st Hawaii State Legislature, serving as a Representative for Kaneohe from 1959 – 62. He was a successful attorney in Honolulu, practicing family law. Al was active in the Jaycees, Lions Club, the Knights of Pythias, and was a lifelong supporter of YMCA, serving on the Camp Erdman board. He was a student of Hawaiian language and loved to write Hawaiian music. He is survived by his wife of 61 years, Betty, sons Pono and Carl, daughter Mealani, four grandchildren, Lei, Laura, Gerrit, and Lia, and sister Betty Cockett. He will be buried at Oahu Cemetery in a private family service on January 10th. In lieu of flowers, donation may be sent to YMCA of Honolulu/Camp Erdman.

EDWIN ALVAH DE SILVA, JR. Born in Hilo on Sept. 28, 1925, a descendant of Funchal on his father’s side and of Kukaniloko on his mother’s. Known as “Spud” to his older family and friends. Died in Kaohao, Kailua, Oahu, on Dec. 25, 2012, surrounded by his children and grandchildren in one of several houses that he designed and built for them. A retired drafting teacher at Leeward Community College and former chairman of that school’s vocational ed department. Previously with the building departments of the City and County of Honolulu and State of Hawaii. And before that, the manager of DeSilva Sales and Services in Hilo. A head umpire of the Kainalu Little League, head swim coach at Kamehameha Schools Kapalama, president of the Kamehameha Swim Club, and head of AAU Swimming in Hawaii. Son of Edwin A. de Silva and Hazel H. Rowland, brother of Eloise R. Peterson. Married for all time to Lorna Piilani Pratt of Honaunau. Children, Kihei C. (Mapuana) de Silva, Kauka H. (Lyn) de Silva, Kapu C. (Kimo) Smith, and Kalei E. TOM WOO November 16, 1921 – December 20, 2012 Tom Woo 91, owner of 50th State TV Repair and Rental in Aiea in the Waimalu Shopping Center died in Mililani. He was born in San Fernando, California and called Hawaii his home for over 60 years. Tom is predeceased by his parents, Joseph Y. Woo and Wong Shee Woo. He is also predeceased by 5 brothers – William, Roy, Sam, Ed, and James. He is survived by his older sisters, Rose Lamb, Lilly Chong and Mary Chu, as well as younger siblings Young, Wayne, Larry, Mabel Woo, Ruth Nishihara and Naomi Thrower. Tom is also survived by many nieces and nephews on the mainland, and hanai son, Peter Lum and Family on Maui. Services will be held at Borthwick Mortuary in Honolulu on Monday, January 14, 2013. Visitation starts at 9 am and services at 10 am. Scattering of cremated remains will be held at a later date.
