EDWIN ALVAH DE SILVA, JR.
EDWIN ALVAH DE SILVA, JR. Born in Hilo on Sept. 28, 1925, a descendant of Funchal on his father's side and of Kukaniloko on his mother's. Known as "Spud" to his older family and friends. Died in Kaohao, Kailua, Oahu, on Dec. 25, 2012, surrounded by his children and grandchildren in one of several houses that he designed and built for them. A retired drafting teacher at Leeward Community College and former chairman of that school's vocational ed department. Previously with the building departments of the City and County of Honolulu and State of Hawaii. And before that, the manager of DeSilva Sales and Services in Hilo. A head umpire of the Kainalu Little League, head swim coach at Kamehameha Schools Kapalama, president of the Kamehameha Swim Club, and head of AAU Swimming in Hawaii. Son of Edwin A. de Silva and Hazel H. Rowland, brother of Eloise R. Peterson. Married for all time to Lorna Piilani Pratt of Honaunau. Children, Kihei C. (Mapuana) de Silva, Kauka H. (Lyn) de Silva, Kapu C. (Kimo) Smith, and Kalei E. (Thad) Kamakaala; Grandchildren, Kahikina, Kapalaiula, Britny, Keolewa, Kanoelehua, Jonathan Kelii, Kainui, Piilani, Kainoa, Carrie, and great-grand- daughter Makanani. Private Services.
