MINNIE EMMSLEY LONGSTAFF 92, passed away in Kailua. She was born & raised on Maui, the youngest of 11 children, & her passing is the end of an era for her family. She enjoyed her long career with Hawaiian Airlines & was hired in 1946. She is survived by son Robert, grandson Lyon, granddaughter Mariko, 3 great-grandchildren, & many nieces, nephews & cousins. Her husband Robert Sr. & son Richard welcomed her to heaven. Services will be at the National Memorial Cemetery of the Pacific, Punchbowl, January 22 at 3:00 PM. In lieu of flowers the family suggests donations to Shriner’s Hospital in her name.

ROSITA DAMASO MATEO
Rosita Damaso Mateo, 70 of Waipahu, Hawaii passed away at her residence on December 21, 2012 after a 16 month battle against lung cancer. She was born on August 5, 1942 in Laoag City, Philippines. Her memorial service will be held on Thursday, January 31, 2013 at Mililani Memorial Park Mauka Chapel at 5:30 p.m. A funeral mass will be held on Friday, February 1, 2013 at St. Elizabeth Church in Aiea. Visiting hours will be from 9:30 a.m. with the mass to follow at 11:00 a.m. The burial will follow at 12:30 p.m. Mililani Memorial Park. Rosita worked at Ala Moana Hotel for over 20 years and retired at the age of 62. Rosita is survived by her sons; Rafael (Jolene) Mateo, Roger (Rochelle) Mateo, Ronel (Cyndi) Mateo; daughters Emma (Nelson) Dias, Imelda (Russell) Rose; 8 grandchildren that she is very proud of; Nishalei Mateo, Marcus Mateo, Ryan Dias, Maycie Mateo, Trinity Mateo, Laura Dias, Noah Mateo, and Micah Mateo; sister Marina Coloma; and brother Alfredo Damaso. Rosita is preceded in death by her husband, Cornelio B. Mateo, and parents Sixto and Isabel Damaso. Rosita has touched the hearts of many with her unconditional love, laughter, life, support, and her smile. She will be greatly missed and will live in our hearts forever. “I shall dwell in the house of the Lord forever” – Psalm 23:6

MILDRED TOSHIKO NISHIMURA Age 81, of Tustin, California, passed away peacefully at her home on December 21, 2012. She was born on February 2, 1931 in Honolulu, Hawaii. Millie grew up in Kalihi and graduated from Farrington High School in 1949. She received an undergraduate degree and a master’s degree in social work from the University of Hawaii. Millie is survived by her husband, Dr. Karl Nishimura; brother, Roy Nakahara (Doris); daughter, Anne Nishimura (Dave Miura); son, Dr. Earl Nishimura (Ann); and grandchildren, Kristin, Emily and Corey. A Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday, January 26, 2013 at Harris United Methodist Church, visitation 10:00 am, service 11:00 am. Aloha attire. No flowers please.

MARGARET PEGGY HARTMAN Margaret A. Hartman, 88 of Honolulu, went home to be with the Lord on January 7, 2013. Peggy was born on August 18, 1924 in Brisbane, Australia. Peggy retired from Bishop Trust Co. and then volunteered at Straub Clinic & Hospital. Peggy was a long time member of the American Legion Auxiliary. Peggy is preceded in death by her husband, Chuck, and her daughter, Shari. She is survived by her daughter, Lexi and son-in-law, Doug (Whitehurst). Services Saturday, January 26th at the Oahu Cemetery Chapel, 2162 Nuuanu Ave. Visitation 9:30 a.m. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the American Legion Auxiliary, Honolulu Unit #1.

WILFRED CLINTON “BUDDY” SOARES

WILFRED CLINTON BUDDY SOARES 83, of Honolulu, died November 25, 2012 in Hollister, California. Born on September 4, 1929. He attended Saint Louis High School and graduated in 1948. At Saint Louis, he was an outstanding football player and all-around athlete. He then attended the University of Hawaii and married Lorraine Perry who predeceased him in 2006. Buddy served in the business community, working with Pan American, Amfac, Hawaiian Electric, Aloha Airlines, and University of Hawaii at Hilo. In 1966, he was elected to the State House of Representatives and served a decade until 1976. For six of those years, he served as Republican Leader. In 1975, he was appointed to the State Senate of Hawaii by Governor George Ariyoshi and subsequently was elected and served from 1976 to 1986. For many years, Buddy was an assistant football coach at Punahou School. He is survived by sons Kevin, Kirk, Kyle (Noni) and daughter Kelly (Alfred) Valenzuela, twelve grandchildren and numerous great-grandchildren. Visitation 9:00 a.m., Saturday, January 26, 2013 at Holy Trinity Church, Honolulu. Mass 11 :00 a.m. Aloha Attire.
