THEODORE K.L. TSEU
Theodore K. L. Tseu, 81 of Honolulu Hawaii passed away peacefully at home on January 6, 2013. He was born on March 3rd, 1931 in Kealia, Kauai to Yuk En Tseu and Shoo Tsin Tseu. His memorial service will be held privately by boat this summer, scattering his ashes at his favorite fishing spot off of Kalaupapa, Molokai. Ted graduated from Iolani School going on to Wesleyan University in Middletown, CT then Yale Medical School earning his degree in 1956. He served as an Air Force Captain for two years in Japan, became an OB/GYN and a black belt in Judo. Returning to Honolulu, Ted set up his medical practice and married Maria Elizabeth Preston. Medical teaching brought him close to his interns with whom he played tennis to “stay young”. An avid sports fan, he supported local children with sports uniforms and assisted getting others into top colleges. He represented Wesleyan University, working with potential Hawaii candidates. Remembered for his open door policy, he never turned a patient away, treating many who could not afford medical care. A teaching trip to Ponapee for a month working in very primitive conditions showed his mettle. He delivered keikis and provided pre- and post-natal care at Queens and Kapi’olani Medical Centers for several decades. In the early 1970’s, he was a pioneer in the field of gender reassignment participating with a professional team providing support in a medically challenging field. An avid hunter, fisherman, Porsche club member, antiques art/watch collector, chef and traveler, his culinary ventures took him world wide. He is survived by daughter Gale, sons Karl and Jason, Sister Winifred Ego, four grandchildren, and a host of nieces, nephews and cousins. He made a difference to so many people and later in life, this goodness flowed back to him in the wonderful caring people who surrounded him in his last years. The family is grateful to Bristol Hospice, Queens Community based programs and especially to Renelda Raposas, a care giver without equal. “Thank you for all our blessings Fadda, we keep you in our hearts, a treasure forever.” Condolences may be sent to Theodoretseu@gmail.com Donations in his name to Windward Spouse Abuse Shelter, would be deeply appreciated. PO Box 1955, Kailua, Hawaii 96734
