PATRICK SOUKI
79, of Ewa Beach, Hawaii passed away on 1-26-2012 at St. Francis Hospice Ewa Beach, after a long illness. He was a Korean War Veteran who was proud to have served his country, and considered himself a Marine first. Once a Marine, always a Marine. He later went on to pursue a career as a Postmaster for the U.S. Postal Service. Many considered him an outstanding mentor and an incredible leader. He survived by his wife of 51 years, Arlene: Daughters Kathleen, Cheryl, Coleen, and Julie: 9 Grandchildren: Brothers Hal, Bobby, Vincent, Vernon: Sister Katherine: and twin sister Patricia. He will forever be remembered for his incredible wit, great sense of humor, and his compassion for everyone he met. He touched the lives of many people whose paths in life crossed his. He was a great man, an incredible friend, and a humble soul who will be dearly missed. A Hui Hou Papa… Until we meet again… Services will be held at Borthwicks on 2-16-2013 from 5pm-7pm. Service is at 7:00 pm. Burial will be held at Punchbowl Cemetary on 2-22-2013 at 9:30.

January 7, 2013 COL. JOHN H. ALLEN JR. 95 an officer and a gentleman died at home. He was a Kaimuki boy, class of 38 Kamehameha school graduate who got to touch the Kitty Hawk and meet Babe Ruth. 25 years as an Air Force pilot from December 7, 1941 thru 1965 in WWII and Korean War who retired as a Strategic Air Commander, and then came home to Hawaii to build custom homes. He was an avid golfer who had 3 hole in ones’ and played till he was 93. He was a Big Brother and a volunteer at the Palace. A loving husband, father and grandparent who is survived by wife Mary A. of 67 yrs., daughter Paula, brother Charles Kini, and grandson Sean Fenn. He is loved and missed by his family and friends and there will be a Celebration of life in April. A Hui Hou.

Wayne Asao Yamamoto (“Yama”), born 10/16/1944, died 1/19/2013 after a long bout with Congestive Heart Failure at the age of 68. He’s a graduate of Waianae High School Class of 1963. He became a roofer and later part owner of Keneke Roofing Company. He was very active in his community; coaching Little League Baseball, also a Leeward Conference Commissioner and coach for Pop Warner Football League. He served on the Board of Directors for the Pacific Palisades Community and a board member of The Valley of the Giants Hawaiian Club. SGT. of Arms with the Roofers Union Local 221. An avid net fisherman, he loved the ocean, camping and family gatherings. He is survived by wife Carol of 48 1/2 years, 6 sons, 2 daughters, 14 grandchildren, and 5 great grandchildren. He lived a happy and fulfilling life becoming a Jehovah’s Witness for the Pearl City Congregation; he will be deeply missed by his family and friends. TED WAH SING CHONG M.D.
Ted Wah Sing Chong, M.D., age 92, of Moorestown, N.J., died Jan. 20, 2013. Dr Chong was born in Honolulu to Mr. and Mrs C.S. Wing. C.S. Wing was the founder of the Wing Coffee Company. Dr. Chong attended McKinley High School and received undergraduate, medical and graduate medical degrees at the University of Pennsylvania. He attended medical school under the U.S. Naval Reserve program and was on active duty as a Lt. Junior Grade from 1943 to 1945, He served in Operation Sandstone in the Enewetok Atoll, as well at Tripler Medical Hospital. After starting an obstetrics and gynecology practice in Honolulu, he relocated to N.J., where he worked until his late eighties. He was an avid golfer through age 92, with a single-digit handicap for many years. He is survived by his wife, Janice M. Chong, and four children – Sue Lin of Baltimore; Glenn and his wife Diane of San Diego.; Jei Lee Freeman and her husband Barry of Winchester, Mass.; and Erica Slavin of Nantucket; his grandchildren Ryan and Kevin Chong and Lucy Freeman. He is also survived by a sister Marietta Eng and sister-in-law Blanche Chong, both of Honolulu. He was predeceased by his parents and siblings Wilfred, Wai Quon Lee, Albert, Wah Jan, Robert and numerous members of his extended family. He was predeceased by his first wife Stella Sunn Chong, who died in 1971. Services were held on Jan. 25. Memorial contributions may be made to the Penn Fund of the University of Pennsylvania, Philadelphia, Pa.

MARK SUSUMU OSHIO January 11, 2013 Mark S. Oshio 76, of Honolulu, passed away peacefully at home. He was born on June 21, 1936, to Paul and Margaret Oshio. Mark retired as President of Schuman Carriage Motors after being with the company for 50 years. Part of that time he was also actively involved with NAPA. Upon retirement he became a director on the Rehab Hospital of the Pacific and Rehab Foundation boards. He was an advocate for Rehab and volunteered his time to support Rehab’s mission. Mark also enjoyed spending time with family and friends. He will be fondly remembered for his sense of humor, quick wit and the ability to make others laugh. He is survived by his beloved wife Helen, daughters Patti (Alan) Ohara, Kristi (Thomas) Lundell, six grandchildren; Richele Ohara, Isaiah, Elijah, Olivia, Aliya and Pono Lundell, and brothers, Bryan (Karen) and Dennis Oshio.
