MUN CHUNG HU
January 25, 1925 February 10, 2013 Our loving Uncle and Brother Mun Chung Hu passed away on February 10, 2013 at his home. Prior to opening his restaurant, Star Inn, on Nuuanu Avenue, he served as a cook in the U.S. Army, apprenticed as a plumber’s helper with a family friend, and worked as a journeyman in pipe-fitting with Von Hamm Young and Company. As a teenager, he enjoyed raising and racing homing pigeons and playing billiards, and in his later years, raised chiclid tropical fish and goldfish. Viewing sports and quiz shows became his passion in his senior years. He is survived by his brothers Lt. Col. (USAF RET) Norman C. Hu and Dr. William C.C. Hu; sister Jeanette (Melvin) Miyata, nine nieces, including primary caregivers Jari and Brenda Young Matsui; and six nephews. Traditional Taoist services will be held on Sunday, March 17, 2013 from 9:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. at Borthwick. Burial will follow at 1:00 p.m. at Hawaiian Memorial Park. Flowers will be greatly appreciated.
