JARED KEANU SYLVA ALVAREZ 19 of Lahaina, Maui died Sunday, March 24, 2013. Born in Wailuku, Maui November 23, 1993. Survived by his mother Shariann Sylva, Father John Alvarez, Grandparents Frank and Sharen Sylva, Great- grandmother Adelaide Sylva, and numerous Aunties, Uncles, and cousins. A celebration of Life Memorial Service will be held on April 12, 2013 at the Kamehameha School Chapel, Maui Campus from 6pm to 8pm. Funeral Services will be held on April 13, 2013 at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints in Lahaina. Public visitation from 9am – 10:30 am; church service at 11am, lunch to follow. NATHAN NATE ALAYON
Nathan “Nate” Alayon was born September 3rd 1963, a 1981 Mililani Grad, and he went to be with God on March 24th, 2013 at 49 years young. He was a proud front end loader operator for Ameron who loved to hunt and fish. He was a muscle car enthusiast who was most proud of his Monte Carlo SS. Body building was a passion of his and he has the medals and trophies to prove it. He is survived by his loving wife Deborah Alayon, children Lexy (Shaun) Gorgonio, Nasera Alayon, Johnathan Zachman, Nathan Alayon Jr., and Levi Lontayao. He leaves behind 3 adoring grandchildren, Tihoney, Elijah, Lia and his best furry friend Scruffy. He will be forever missed by his mother Caroline, Sister Sandra and Brothers Calvin and Michael. Services will take place at Hawaiian Memorial Monday April 15th, 2013 starting with visitation at 9:30am. The service will begin at 10:30am lead by Pastor Dan Van Alstine followed by a graveside service at 1:00pm. Nathan was a friend to everyone and offered his love and support to anyone who would receive it. Constantly thinking of others and their needs Nathan will be missed but the love that he had for those who knew him, will live forever in their hearts. Nathan is with our Lord and savior and will spend eternity pain free and watch his loved ones from heaven above. We will miss you and remember you always.

HOLLIS HSING-MING CHANG,
MD Of San Marino, California, passed away on Wednesday, March 27th, 2013 peacefully in his sleep. Hollis was born February 18th, 1940 in Honolulu, Hawaii. He graduated from Punahou School, Honolulu, Oberlin College and University of Southern California Medical School. He served as a Captain in the United States Air Force Medical Corp and was a practicing orthopedic surgeon before retiring. Hollis was a true Renaissance man. In addition to being a surgeon, Hollis: was an accomplished singer, was self-taught on the piano, ukulele, bass and drums, was an award winning artist, set the state record in the 330 hurdles, was a bird keeper, a gardener, a golfer and a chef. He lived his life with integrity, honesty and a zeal to explore new lands and meet new people. Hollis is survived by his loving wife of 47 years, Linda Leong Chang and their two sons: Hollis Blair Chang and Brent Christopher Chang; siblings: Lennig Chang MD (Adele), Rowena Shriber, Sheryln Goo; brother-in-law Robert Wong; and proceeded in death by sister Jocelyn Wong and brothers-in-law Richard Leong and William Shriber MD. Also survived by 12 nieces and nephews and many other relatives. Services and burial will be private in Honolulu. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Hollis H. Age, 86 of Kailua and Punchbowl, Hawaii passed away January 6, 2013. Born April 17, 1926 in Kaimuki, Hawaii. She worked in the offices of Theo Davies Co. and taught dancing at the Arthur Murray Studios prior to her marriage to Air Force pilot Ralph Peter Clark. She managed to raise 4 boys while transferring from Hawaii to Florida to Hawaii to Okinawa and finally back to Hawaii for good. She is survived by her 4 sons- Ralph “Peter” Clark Jr., Frederick Evans Clark, Christopher William Clark & David Dean Clark, 1 daughter-in-law – Karen Soares Clark and 2 grandchildren – Taylor Lynn Clark and Morgan Leigh Clark. To her surprise & disappointment, Pat wound up being the last of the 5 Janssen daughters to pass away, all of who graduated from Roosevelt High School during and just after WW II. She was ready to rejoin her family on the other side. Services will be held at Punchbowl Cemetery At 2pm, April 17, 2013. A celebration of her life will follow in Kailua. GARRON LEE ‘POPEYE’ ELDERS (COMMANDER US NAV, RETIRED)
Garron Lee ‘Popeye’ Elders, 66, passed away on September 1, 2012 in Port Washington, NY of natural causes. He was born in Altadena, CA and spent 22 years in the US Navy. During his tour of the Philippines, he met and married his wife Dina in 1967. After leaving the service, he enrolled at San Jose State University where he graduated in 1975 and was later commissioned as an officer in 1976. He was a ship driver and later transferred to Naval Intelligence in 1981 upon graduation from the Naval Postgraduate School where he obtained a master degree in National Security. A true “Pacific Fleet Sailor”, ashore tours have included San Diego, San Francisco, Sangley Point, Philippines, Pearl Harbor and finally, as a commander, the Officer-in-Charge of a task group in Yokosuka, Japan. After his retirement from the US Navy in 1993, he worked for several corporations in the Philippines, Hong Kong and Japan until his final retirement in 2008. A long time Honolulu resident, Garron was active in the community where he was a board member and then president of the Kuapa Isle AOAO. Besides traveling, he volunteered at Hanauma Bay and loved snorkeling, kayaking, surfing, and enjoying the beauty of Hawaii and the ocean. Garron was diagnosed with prostate cancer in 2001 and spent the past three years committed to holistic and integrative medicine and educating others through his blog www.sojournintohealing.com. He especially loved spending time with his grandchildren (who named him Popeye) and could be found changing diapers, giving baths, taking walks, heading to the beach, and feeding them (he called himself Handi Nanny). He is survived by his wife of 45 years, Dina; son and daughter-in-law, Chris and Jacqueline Elders; daughter and son-in-law Tanya and Chris Warburton; grandchildren Hudson & Jackson Garron Elders and Kainoa & Kalani Warburton; siblings Claudia Lunt and Kerry Elders and brother in law John Lunt. Garron’s memorial service was held on October 12th, 2012 at the Punchbowl National Memorial Cemetery of the Pacific.
