April 29,1951 – March 30, 2013 Thomas Eugene Bailie, 61, of Honolulu, Hawai`i, passed peacefully from our earthly bounds on March 30, 2013. Tom will be remembered as a gentle, compassionate, creative soul who saw the world with the discerning eye of an artist, appreciative of the beauty in all things great and small. Tom was born to William and Florence Bailie in Los Angeles in 1951. He lived his formative years in Manhattan Beach, California. There he met his cherished, lifelong friends and fell in love with the ocean. An avid surfer, windsurfer, skier, and skydiver, Tom loved the outdoors and sharing the fun with close friends. Tom attended California State University at Long Beach and earned a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree in Ceramics in 1975 and attained a Teaching Credential in Art in 1977. JOSEPH E. SPADARO
Died on March 18, 2013 at age 95 in Honolulu. “To Joe, the real Go-Getter!”, an inscription in a book presented to Joe by a friend, describes well his love of a challenge and his persistence in solving any problem. He converted Aloha Airlines fleet of equipment to propane while with Honolulu Gas Co., and later repaired the hydraulic systems on minesweepers. Born in Italy on April 21, 1917, and serving there during WWII, Joe re-learned the language in recent years by socializing on Skype with relatives. Among his favorite hobbies were sailing aboard his boat the Serendipity II with family and friends, repairing computers, and playing billiards, of which he did the latter two up to the time of his death. Joseph is survived by his wife of 64 years, Luella Nelson Spadaro; his son, John Nelson Spadaro and wife, Linda; and his daughter, Mary Louise Spadaro and partner, Bruce Tornquist; all of Honolulu, and several nieces and nephews on the mainland.
