GLENN CANNON

Posted On May 11th, 2013 -

GLENN CANNON
Charismatic professor, inspiring director, actor extraordinaire. surrounded by friends and family, Glenn Cannon took his final curtain call on April 20, 2013. Glenn’s favorite song was Judy Garland’s “Somewhere Over the Rainbow.” This song brought a smile to his face and tears to all who serenaded him during his final days. Despite successes as a Broadway and Hollywood actor, Glenn’s passion was “giving to others” as exemplified through his 45 years of teaching theatre at the University of Hawaii and directing 163 plays at Kennedy and other local community theatre venues. He was heavily involved in both until the end of his life. Glenn portrayed many memorable characters in his illustrious career including recurring roles as District Attorney John Manicote on the original Hawaii Five-0 and Dr. Ibold on Magnum PI. However, by far, his most cherished roles were that of wise mentor, loyal friend, and loving husband, father, uncle, and most recently grandfather. Glenn your legacy lives on in all the people you touched. For the rest of our lives, whenever we see a rainbow shining across the Hawaiian skies, we know in our hearts, somewhere Glenn Cannon is sitting in his directors chair and smiling down on us all. With much love and Aloha. Glenn is survived by his wife Sam Sil Cannon, son Caleb Cannon and fiancé Jacelyn Wong, granddaughter Kassidy Wong-Cannon, sisters- and brother-in-laws Sam Soo Yoon and Chung Hee Lee and Sam and Daryl Fujii, nephews Jae Sung Lee, Dylan Fujii, and Cody Fujii, and mother-in-law You Soon Chon. A celebration of Glenn’s life will be hosted at his second home, Kennedy Theatre, on Saturday, May 25, 2013 at 3 pm. In lieu of gifts or flowers, donations may be made in memory of Glenn Cannon to support the students of the UH Theatre and Dance Program. Please make checks out to “UH Foundation” with notation of ‘for Glenn Cannon Fund’ and mail to University of Hawai’i Foundation, P.O. Box 11270, Honolulu, HI 96828-0270. Mahalo.
