MARGARET ANN MILLETT “MARGIE”, “MARGE”
Our sweet and beautiful sister, aunt, and sister-in-law passed away peacefully at home with her family by her side on Tuesday April 23rd after a courageous battle against cancer. Margie was born in San Francisco, CA on July 24, 1953 and moved with her family to Kailua, HI in 1959. Margie attended St. Anthony’s School in Kailua and graduated from Kailua High School in 1972. She attended Leeward Community College and graduated from the University of Hawaii with a BS in Recreation in 1977. In December 1979 Margie began working for the Department of the Army as a civilian with Youth Services. She started working as a Recreational Specialist for Schofield and more recently she worked with Child and Youth School Services with the Middle School Teens and School Age Children as a Program Site Manager for Fort Shafter and AMR. She very much enjoyed working with the children and the teens and to those she worked with she was known affectionately as “Miss Marge”. During her lifetime Margie was involved in many activities, canoe paddling with the Kailua Canoe Club, singing in the St. Anthony’s Church Choir and working on the Alumni Scholarship Fund for Kailua High School were just a few. Her 2nd job through Kailua Recreation Center was locking two of the Kailua City parks gates. Her family referred to her as “Keeper of the Gates”. Margie will be greatly missed by her three sisters and their families: Mary Beddow, husband Chris, step-daughter Caroline; Kathy Abang, husband Tony and son Matthew; Carol Lindsay, husband Rick and son Kawika, girlfriend Jessica and children Kawai and Kahea; daughter Malia Barger, husband Ryan and son Makana. Margie is also survived by two Aunts, Mrs Nancy Clavere of Sacramento, CA and Mrs Mary Montgomery of Daly City, CA and numerous cousins. A celebration of Margie’s life will be held on Sat. June 1st, at St. Anthony’s Church 148 Makawao St. Kailua. Visitation at 1030am, Mass at 11am with a luncheon directly following in her honor. Contributions may be made to St Anthony’s School Kailua Scholarship Fund or Kailua High Alumni Scholarship Fund. “Aloha Oe Margie”, until we meet again.
