W W ROBINSON Rear Admiral, SC, USN, (Ret) 7/29/1916 – 6/8/2012 Time has not eased our feelings of great loss of “King”, as he was known within his large family. A Bostonian, he was proud of his New England heritage. His life long commitments to the U.S. Navy and to his growing family expanded to include not only new business ventures in Hawaii, but a dedication to sports, such as volleyball and racquetball, at his beloved Ft. DeRussy courts. Our “King” was also known as “WW”, “Commander”, “Colonel” and “Admiral”. We have not forgotten you, King, and miss your energy and vitality every day.

MILDRED SACHIYE YAMAGUCHI

Posted On June 8th, 2013 -

MILDRED SACHIYE YAMAGUCHI Dec 2, 1920 – Jun 2, 2013 Mildred Sachiye Yamaguchi passed away surrounded by her loving family on June 2 in San Francisco. At age 92, she succumbed to complications of a stroke suffered six months ago. Mildred was born Sachiye Ohta in 1920, the oldest of five children of immigrant parents, Aka and Yutaka Ohta, in Kauai, HI. She grew up in Honolulu. After graduating from McKinley High School she went to Tokyo to continue her education. During the war Mildred was unable to leave the country or contact her family. She found herself trapped in relentless bombing raids, living off the kindness of local residents, and always fearful of being found a U.S. citizen. At war’s end her brother Herbert, a member of the U.S. Army, came to Tokyo and located her on behalf of the family. Mildred had managed to find a job in which her bi-lingualism was a prime asset in the post-war setting. During this time, she met George Soichi Yamaguchi, who came to Tokyo as a member U.S. Army Intelligence. With all of the dislocation and uncertainty of a world war behind them, Mildred and George married and finally settled in San Francisco where they started their family. George predeceased Mildred in 2006 after 57 years of marriage. Mildred loved to travel, enjoy Bay Area sports, and play the occasional game of blackjack – for which she had an uncanny knack for winning. Above all, family and a positive attitude were always her overarching priorities. Grieving her loss are Mildred’s five dedicated children: Michael (Pam), Ken, Ann, Jean (Richard), and Jon (Peri). Mildred is predeceased by her oldest daughter Karen. Mildred will also be deeply missed by her grandchildren: Nicholas, Anthony, Rachel, Riley, Ryan and Emily. She is also survived by siblings Herbert, Dorothy, Lillian, and Janet. Friends may visit after 4 PM and are invited to attend the Rosary at 5PM Thursday, June 6 at the Evergreen Mortuary of McAvoy O’Hara, 10th Ave at Geary Blvd. The Funeral Mass will be celebrated 11AM Friday, June 7 at St. Cecilia Church, 2555 17th Ave., San Francisco. Interment to follow at Holy Cross Cemetery in Colma.
