JOANNE RUSSELL HAMAMOTO 83, died on June 29, surrounded by her family and loved ones. The daughter of Ralph and Lela Russell, Joanne was born on May 29, 1930 and raised in Long Beach, California with her older brother Robert. She graduated from Long Beach Polytechnic High where she was President of the Phi Gamma Chi Sorority. She moved to Hawaii in 1956 and worked at Bank of Hawaii before marrying Howard Hamamoto in 1959 and raising a family of four children: David, Pam, Mark and Paul. Later, she ran the Punahou Summer School office for over 2 decades. Loved by all who knew her, Joanne's optimistic outlook and her internal strength made her a wonderful wife, mother and friend. She is survived by her husband and children and six grandchildren Mia, Neil, Lucy and Kate Hamamoto and Justin and Jessie Kaull and devoted in-laws Marty and Margaret Hamamoto and Kurt Kaull.
