MAXIMA BALMORES CAPILI (91) Maxima Balmores Capili, 91, of Kahului, passed away on Tuesday, July 9, 2013. She died in the comfort of her home, surrounded by her family, under Hospice care. Services are scheduled for Thursday, July 18, 2013 at Borthwick Norman’s Mortuary in Wailuku with visitation from 6:00 pm to 9:00 pm. A private mass and burial will be held at a later date. Maxima, the eldest of 10, was born on June 6, 1922 to Pedro and Blaza Balmores. She married Claro R. Capili Sr. in 1946 and became a mother of 5. She worked for many years as a social worker for the state of Hawaii and also contributed heavily to numerous community organizations. She was a member and lector of Christ the King church and faithfully attended daily mass until the age of 90. Maxima was an intelligent and classy woman. Where ever she went, though short and petite, she walked with great poise and posture. She treated others with dignity and was very welcoming no matter who you were or where you came from. She lived a great life with her husband, one of true love, and her smile was full of true happiness. She was loyal, humble, generous, and well-liked, adored by many for her sweet, gentle manner and unyielding warmth. Maxima was predeceased by her husband of 67 years Claro R. Capili Sr., sons John and Patrick Capili, parents Pedro and Blaza (Diniega) Balmores, parents-in-law Higino and Petra (Velez) Capili, brothers Jose and Teofilo (Jan) Balmores, and nephew David S. Hood. Maxima is survived by daughter Patricia Capili, sons Claro (Laura Boskoff) Capili Jr. and James (Diana Adolphson) Capili, brothers Licarion D. VICTORIA ANTOINETTE PANICCIA LYMAN Passed away at home on Friday, June 28th, 2013, 2 days after her 66th birthday, surrounded by her loving husband of 38 years, Kimo, her children Kepa, Laulima, A’ala, and Aleu’i, her grandchildren Kala’e and Kana’i, her mother Mary Paniccia, and her sister, Patti Paniccia Mailes. She is also survived by her brother Valentino Paniccia and her sister Laurie Case. She was predeceased by her beloved father, Valentino Paniccia. Vickie was born on June 26th, 1947 in Los Angeles, attended Eagle Rock High School and graduated from the University of California at Berkeley. She loved hikes and backpacking both in her own backyard in the hills of Mokuleia as well as the Napali coast, the treks of New Zealand and the Camino de Santiago in Spain. She outlasted her friends and family on long, open water swims and she provided refuge to countless stray animals. While her home was always packed with visitors and exchange students from around the world, there was always room for more. She was proud of her community service including co-founding Friends of Kaena, the North Shore Environmental Coalition, and the Children’s Museum, fighting North Shore development, and being an active member of the WHIS as well as a favorite substitute teacher at Waialua High School. She will be fondly remembered and deeply missed for her honest, fearless nature, her extraordinary generosity, and for sharing her supreme talents in the kitchen at her holiday celebrations. She was passionate in all things and thrived in keeping traditions alive as well as creating new ones for all. Please join us in honoring our beloved mother, spouse, daughter, sister, friend on Thursday July 25th at 5pm at Central Union Church.
