FAMILY PLACED OBITUARY

PATRICK LLOYD SHAW
PATRICK LLOYD SHAW Patrick Lloyd Shaw was born in Guatemala City, Guatemala, to parents employed there in the U.S. Foreign Service. He lived with his parents and his older sister in Belgium, Paraguay, Indonesia, Iran, Japan, Kenya, Egypt, and graduated from high school in Bolivia. After serving 3 years in the US Army, he obtained degrees in East Asian Studies and Journalism from the University of Hawaii graduating with honors. He worked for one year in Japan before his marriage to Jodi Toguchi and for an additional two years when he and his wife both taught English there. Pat held a number of jobs in which he utilized his Japanese speaking skills in Honolulu and then in financial services on the mainland, and since 2006 has been the Hawaii representative of the cruise ship association. Pat passed away peacefully last week at home surrounded by friends and family. He is survived by his wife of 19 years, Jodi; his daughter, Lauren; his parents Oliver and Janet (Yara) Shaw of Albuquerque; his sister, Michelle Crockett and her family (Robert, Jenna & Hayli) of Arvada, Colorado; parents-in-law, Charles and Elaine Toguchi of Kaneohe; grandmother-in-law, Misao Asato; and brother-in-law, Ryan Toguchi and his family (Sonia & Taryn) of Seattle, Washington. Pat was a treasured husband, dedicated father, son, brother, son-in-law, grandson-in-law, brother-in-law, uncle, nephew, cousin of all varieties, and friend to so very many here in Hawai'i and around the world. Pat had a passion for music, basketball, fantasy football, thrill-seeking like sky diving and bungee jumping, and especially supporting his beloved Lauren in all her activities. No matter how tired or exhausted Pat felt, he willed himself to attend as many of Lauren's soccer games, performances, and school activities that he could. He was kind, charismatic, thoughtful, funny, and incredibly generous to all those whose lives he touched. Pat battled pancreatic cancer bravely for twenty-two months with the support of "Pat's Posse," and he greatly inspired those he knew with the dignity, grace, and integrity he displayed through it all. We know he is finally savoring his ultralight flight over the Ko'olaus on Oahu. Please join us in celebrating the life of Patrick Shaw on Sunday, July 21st at Central Union Church. Visitation will be from 1 to 2pm with the Celebration of Life service from 2 to 3pm. Food and fellowship to follow in the Parrish Hall. Casual or aloha attire, please do not wear black.

Our deepest condolences to the family and friends of the deceased
