SGT. MAJ. ROBERT F. PORTER
SGT. MAJ. ROBERT F. PORTER Sgt. Maj. Robert F. Porter was born on March 5th, 1925 in Hornell, NY. He passed away peacefully on July 28, 2013 at Tripler Army Medical Center. At the age of 17 he joined the Marine Corps. After completing boot camp at Paris Island, S.C. he was sent to China for his first duty station. He served in WWII, The Korean War and 2 tours in Viet Nam. He also served as an instructor/inspector for a reserve unit in S. Bend, Indiana and was 1st Sgt. Of the 1st Medical Battalion. He was the Sgt. Maj. In charge of the Naval Prison in Kittery, ME. and the first Sgt. Maj. of Marine Corps Base Hawaii. He was a Master Mason and a member of St. John's Lodge in Portsmouth, NH. He was A Shriner and Past Commander of The Legion of Honor of Aloha Temple. He was a Past Patron, Order of the Eastern Star and Rainbow Dad. He was a charter member and served many years on the Board of Directors at Windward Community Federal Credit Union. He is survived by his wife of 60 years, Flora, Sons Lloyd (Kriss), Head Golf Pro at Rancho Bernardo, CA, David, (Susan) Retired Cmdr., USN, of Louisville, KY and Debbie Bagwell of Kailua, HI. He has 5 grandchildren and three great granddaughters (triplets) . Military Honors will be at the Hawaii State Veteran's Cemetery in Kaneohe, Friday, August 2, 2013 @ 11 a.m. In lieu of flowers please make donations to The Shriner's Hospital, Honolulu Unit.
