DAISY KELIIKIPI LUNG (97) Passed away on August 2, 2013 at the Straub Clinic and Hospital. Born on May 10, 1916 in Honolulu, Hawaii. She was a long time employee of 47 years at the Straub Clinic and Hospital. She is survived by her sons, Richard (Ipo) and Robert and grandchildren Kimi and Keenan. A memorial visitation and service will be at Oahu Cemetery Chapel, on August 15, 2013, beginning at 5:00 p.m.

Edna Pualani Farden Bekeart

EDNA PUALANI FARDEN BEKEART Edna Farden Bekeart passed away on Monday, June 17, 2013 at the age of 95 in Kaneohe. She was the last surviving sibling of the distinguished Farden family of Lahaina. While attending the University of Hawaii, she met then married Californian Robert Edward Bekeart. After WWII, Edna dedicated her life to education, teaching at the Royal, Kamehameha and Holy Nativity Schools. Edna was a member of the Honolulu chapter of Hale o Na Ali’i , The Daughters of Hawai’i, The Prince Kuhio Hawaiian Civic Club, Maunalua Civic Club and Delta Kappa Gamma. At Holy Nativity School and the DOE she created the Hawaiian Culture Education programs. She is also credited with establishing the May Day and Pa’ina events at Holy Nativity. She taught ‘ukulele and hula to scores of summer coeds at the University of Hawaii. Edna was an accomplished Hawaiian music composer and a 2008 recipient of the Na Hoku Hanohano Lifetime Achievement Award. She will be remembered for songs such as “Maunalua Bay,” “Christmas Love,” and “Ginger Memories” and the 1960s children’s hit “Sassy Little Mynah Bird” (co-composed with sister Irmgard Aluli). She was also inducted into the National Organization of PEN Women for her musical compositions. She is survived by children Bastel Francois Bekeart (wife Gloria Evans), Dana Bekeart (wife Dorothy Roberts), and Marquita Denison (husband William) and four grandchildren. Memorial Church services will be held Friday, August 16, 2013 at 4:00pm the Church of the Holy Innocents, Lahaina, Maui, and Tuesday, August 20, 2013 at 9:00am at Holy Nativity Church, Aina Haina, Honolulu. Edna’s ashes will be interred next to her husband Robert’s at the Punchbowl National Memorial Cemetery.

YAEKO UEDA FENN AND JOSEPH F. FENN 88, beloved Mother, Aunt, Sister & friend passed peacefully at her home at the Hawaii Kai Retirement Community under the compassionate care given by Hospice Hawaii & Attention Plus caregivers. A retired homemaker who enjoyed crocheting, knitting, sewing, playing the Koto, and dancing traditional Okinawa dances. Born in Okinawa, married in 1951, then came to Hawaii in 1952 as a young bride with the love of her life, Joseph F Fenn. Married for 57 glorious years when he passed in 2008. Daily she’d say “Daddy no-come get me yet.” Early morning July 20, 2013, Daddy came & Mom is happy to be reunited with him. Survived by daughter, Denise Chiemi Hokulani Fenn, brothers, Tsugio (Hatsuko), Sadao (Ikuko), sisters Humiko Oshiro & Miyoko Kohama, nieces, nephews, & friends. She was predeceased by brother, Kazuo Ueda. Private Services & inurnment were held at the Punchbowl National Cemetery of the Pacific on Daddy’s Birthday.

ALICE HERRING Of Kaneohe, died at home on July 26 from breast cancer at the age of 67. Alice volunteered feeding the homeless for many years, and served on the Cathedral Chapter. JACQUELINE KATHE Jacqueline “Jackie” Kathe, 88, died August 2, 2013 at The Queen’s Medical Center in Honolulu. Jackie Kathe was born July 27, 1925 in Shanghai, China to Joseph and Laura (Hansen) Flannery. She attended the Shanghai American School. From January 1942 to liberation in February 1945, Jackie and her parents were prisoners of war at Santo Tomas Internment Camp in Manila, The Philippines. After World War II, Jackie attended Stanford University in Palo Alto, CA. Jackie returned to China and worked for the Economic Cooperation Administration. In Tianjin, China, she met her husband of 49 years, Raymund A. Kathe of Citibank whom she married in Hong Kong in 1950. Over the next 34 years, Ray and Jackie lived in Tokyo, Nagoya, Yokohama, Hong Kong, New York City, and Wilton, CT. In 1985, Jackie and Ray retired to Honolulu. Jackie lived at Arcadia Retirement Residence since 2009. Jackie was an active member of each community in which she lived. In Honolulu, she was a member of Sacred Heart Parish (Punahou), the Pacific Club, Friends of the East-West Center, Japan America Society, and the Honolulu Academy of Arts. Jackie was preceded in death by her husband Ray, and grandson Jamie. She is survived by her son and daughter-in-law, Jon and Madeline Kathe of Concord, MA; daughter and son-in-law, Kristin and T.J. Hughes of Wellesley, MA; daughter and son-in-law, Erin and Tom Donatelli of Upper Montclair, NJ; grandchildren, Jon and Andrew of Concord, MA, Patrick Hughes (Katie) of Alexandria, VA, Gregory Hughes of Venice, CA, Katie Hughes of Santa Clara, CA, and Olivia and Isabelle Donatelli of Upper Montclair, NJ.
