VIOLET C. L. HEE Violet Charlotte Lee Hee, of Lihu`e passed away at her home on October 4, 2013, at the age of 97. She was born on O`ahu on March 25, 1916. She retired from a long career in education having taught at Hanama`ulu School and Waimea High School, then serving as an educational officer at the Department of Education’s District Office in Lihu`e. She was preceded in death by her husband, Hong Min Hee, brothers Dr. Alexander (Vivian) Lee, Henry (Clara) Lee and grandson Rick L. Demaris. He was 72 years old and is survived by his wife Maxine, sons David Daniel (Rosanne) and Dr. John Michael (Cindy), daughter Christine Kay (Sean Aydlott) and grandsons Jace Masaji and Cody Koshin Nagamine. He is also survived by a brother Roy Nagamine and three sisters: May Tamashiro, Jean Shimabukuro, Sandra Chong and numerous nieces and nephews. Sister Winifred Kataoka preceded him in death. He was born to Steven Shoshin and Thelma Tamayo (Akamine) Nagamine on March 5, 1941 in Honolulu. He graduated from McKinley High school in 1960, received his Bachelor of Business Administration degree in accounting in 1965, and was licensed as a Certified Public Accountant in 1968. After working for several Hawaii accounting firms, he devoted the rest of his professional career expanding Flamingo Enterprises, which included Caf� Flamingo, Flamingo Ala Moana, Kapiolani, Chuckwagon, Royal Lanai, Coffee Shop, Arthur’s, Pearl City, Waipahu, Windward, and the Heritage Ballroom at the Japanese Cultural Center. He also served on the Board of Directors at Central Pacific Bank and was so proud when CPB was listed on the New York Stock Exchange in 2002. As a Director on the Hawaii Dental Association Board, he worked tirelessly to ensure sound practices and policies and received acknowledgement in 1998 for his outstanding contributions and devoted leadership. Dan spent his non-working hours traveling with his family. An annual ski trip during the Christmas holidays was the family’s present to each other, beginning in 1979 and ending in 1989 as the children left for college. Travel continued with Maxine throughout the United States and to faraway places such as Europe, Mexico, Thailand, Japan, China, Australia and New Zealand. In more recent years, daughter Christine joined trips to Scandinavia/Russia and several U.S. destinations. In addition to traveling, he helped to organize his high school reunions and always looked forward to seeing his classmates at the events. Throughout his life, he especially enjoyed renovation projects at work and home, paying attention to every detail to ensure professional results. A celebration of Dan’s life will be held on Friday, October 25, 2013 at the Honolulu Country Club (Salt Lake). Visitation will be held between 10:30-11:30 with the program at 11:30.
