Joseph Ayala Lopes, 91, of Pearl City, a retired air conditioning and refrigeration mechanic for the Navy Public Works Center Pearl Harbor and Oahu Country Club, and an Army veteran, died in Waipahu. He was born in Holualoa, Hawaii. He is survived by wife Gladys M. Chang-Lopes; son Roger L. James; daughters Mearl “Vernie” Cooper, Darlene “Dee” Stansell, Janice Akau, Masie Lopes and Naomi Chang-Damon; brother Albert Cortes; sister Adeline Sanchez-Baird; 17 grandchildren; 34 great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren. Visitation: 9:30 a.m. Nov. 1 at Hawaiian Memorial Park Mortuary. Services: 10:30 a.m. Committal services: 1 p.m. at Hawaii State Veterans Cemetery, Kaneohe.
