DONALD ARTHUR BUD SCELSA November 10, 2013 Captain Bud", 67, grew up in Newport Beach and moved to Hawaii while he was stationed in the Coast Guard. An avid waterman, he was involved in the initial launch of the Hokule'a in 1975, worked as a charter boat captain on Maui, completed several transpacific voyages and spent many years on Oahu as a well-respected Marine Surveyor. He was also a passionate paipo board builder and rider. Bud was well known for his kindness and generosity. He is loved and will be profoundly missed by his partner, Dela LaFleur, his siblings John Scelsa, Greg Scelsa, Aminah Ulmer, and Covita Moroney, numerous nieces and nephews and their families, and many good friends. Aloha a hui hou 'o kaua.
