1-7 Ronald E JonesRONALD E. JONES Ronald E. Jones, 74, founder of Sonitrol of Hawaii, died at home in Honolulu on December 23, 2013, his 53rd wedding anniversary. He was born at Schofield Barracks, Wahiawa, to Maj. Edgar A. Jones (USA, Ret.) and Nancy Matsumura Jones, both deceased. After earning his BA at UH Manoa, he enlisted in the army and served in Vietnam and Japan. Ron became a Credit Manager for several large companies in California. In 1983, the family moved to Hawaii to open Sonitrol. Ron was named Dealer of the Year in 1995, and Sonitrol was recognized as Best Security Organization at the 1996 Honolulu Top Cop luncheon. Ron worked hard to better his community. President of: Moanalua Gardens Community Assn. 15 years, Kalihi Business Association (Businessman of the Year 1996, Christmas Parade Chair 17 years), Hawaii Joint Police Association, CrimeStoppers of Honolulu, Hawaii Burglar & Fire Alarm Association, and the Moanalua Lions Club. Officer or Board member of Damien Memorial School, Moanalua Gardens Foundation, and Boy Scouts. Member of the 200 Club, Kaneohe Business Group, and Class Gift Chair for Roosevelt ’57 50th Reunion. He received numerous certificates of recognition from the State Senate, House, and City Council. In 2013 he received the Moanalua Kinaole Award for community service and a Lifetime Achievement Award from the Law Enforcement/Security Coalition. Favorite project: the very first C&C Off Leash Dog Park 2004. Ron loved to travel, visiting the pyramids in Egypt and ice sculptures in Harbin, China, riding elephants in Nepal, Thailand, India, and Africa – every continent except Antarctica (too cold). Best adventure: Hang gliding from the top of Haleakala to the beach at the Grand Wailea. A speed reader, he amassed a large library of classics, history, biography, and mysteries. He is survived by wife, Patricia Mizuo Jones, son David T (Julie) Jones; daughter Lisa Jones Hamada; sister Linda (Mark) Kuklinsky, and three grandchildren, Darrian, Dane, and Mia.
