CATHERINE CULLEN SLAVENS Our dear angel Catherine Cullen Slavens, 71, of Kaneohe passed away unexpectedly on Saturday, January 11, 2014. Born in Philadelphia, PA, on January 27, 1942, Cathy married D. Michael Slavens, on February 7, 1970. She graduated Magna Cum Laude from the University of Hawaii receiving her Bachelors of Science in nursing in 1987. Cathy was a beloved wife, mother, grandmother, great- grandmother, sister, aunt, friend and neighbor. She is survived by her husband, Mike Slavens and her six children; Thomas Slavens, of Kaneohe; Catherine Slavens, of Kaneohe; Christopher Slavens, of Waipahu; Daniel Slavens of Los Angeles; Bridget Park of San Francisco; and Anne Marie Blackburn of Denver. She is also survived by nine grand- children, Travis, Taryn, Tania, Cullen, Connor, John, Amelia, Noah, Daniel, and Madeline and one great-grandchild Skylie. Cathy lived her life with unwavering compassion, quiet grace, and tremendous love. She will be missed immeasurably. A celebration of her life ceremony will be held at St. Mark Lutheran Church in Kaneohe at 11 a.m. on Saturday, 18 January. Casual/ aloha attire. Services are open to all who loved her. An open gathering will follow.
