EDWARD TARO UCHIHARA, UCHI Edward Taro Uchihara, “Uchi,” 85, of Honolulu, retired sheet metal superintendent for Commercial Sheetmetal Co. and retired inspector for the Hawaii Department of Accounting and General Services, passed away on January 12, 2014 at home. He was born in Makawao, Maui and was an Army veteran. He is survived by his wife, Katherine M.; sons, Eric (Cheryl) and Glen (Sara); daughters, Carolyn Kurihara (Don), Iris Oda (Raymond), Lori Lapinid (Wayne), and Sharon Uchihara; and 11 grandchildren. FRANKLIN JOSEPH DAVIDSON Jacksonville, NC – 74, died Monday, January 20, 2014 at Carolina East Hospice Care Center in Kenansville. A retired Gunnery Sergeant with the U.S. Marine Corps, he was a native of Bradley Beach, NJ. He lived in Honolulu for 35 years. Survivors include his wife, Margaret Ann Bannerman Davidson of the home; two daughters, Sally Ellen Parker of Beaverton, OR and Suzanne Kaui DiFiore of Winter Garden, FL; three brothers, Irwin Davidson of Pompano Beach, FL, George Davidson of Hamilton, NJ and John Davidson of Deridder, LA; three sisters, Evelyn Parker of Birmingham, AL, Catherine Mulvihill of Pompano Beach, FL and Helen Davidson of Neptune, NJ; four grandchildren. His brother, Burton Davidson precedes him in death. A private service will be held at a later date at Arlington National Cemetery. Jones Funeral Home, Jacksonville is handling the arrangements.

1-25-RICK-JAMES-FUJITARICK JAMES FUJITA 55, of Bluffton, South Carolina, passed away on December 8, 2013. Rick was born on October 20, 1958 in Honolulu, Hawaii. He was a Certified Public Accountant with a BBA from the University of Hawaii and an MBA from Queens University. Rick had an exceptional career in finance, beginning with Arthur Young and Company in Honolulu, Hawaii. He then joined American Television and Communications, the cable division of Time, Inc. in Denver, Colorado as Director of Accounting. While there, Rick established operating divisions in Shreveport, Louisiana and Dallas, Texas. He later joined Cable Audit Associates, working with clients such as HBO/Cinemax, Turner, A&E, Lifetime, Discovery Networks and ESPN. Rick was then recruited to join Raycom Sports in Charlotte, North Carolina, becoming their Chief Financial Officer. Raycom was the largest sports and entertainment television syndicator in the country and Rick was responsible for all aspects of finance and accounting. When Raycom Sports placed itself for sale, he led the due diligence process and helped to successfully conclude the sale of the company. Rick then joined Nuray Holdings, a financial holding company with twenty-three entities as Chief Financial Officer. He also served as a financial and management consultant. This led to Rick becoming Chief Financial Officer of CraftBuilt Homes in Bluffton, South Carolina, where he developed the plan to split the company into two parts-homebuilding (CraftBuilt Homes) and real estate development (Village Park Communities). Rick remained as Chief Financial Officer of Village Park Communities, and was responsible for all daily operations including finance, accounting, sales, marketing, purchasing, production and construction. Rick was an avid collector of modern and contemporary art and a supporter of live theater. He is survived by brothers Russell (Jo-Ann) and Randall (Robynne) Fujita, nieces Hillary and Kiah, and nephew Nicloas. A celebration of life was held in Bluffton, SC.

donnamariegomezDONNA MARIE GOMES January 12, 2014 Donna Gomes, 63, of Honolulu, passed away on January 12, 2014 at Queens Medical Center. She was born in Koko Head region of Honolulu. Donna attended Star of the Sea school for girls from Kindergarten through 12th Grade. She was a proud graduate of the Class of ’68 an honorary diploma for having a perfect attendance record for all 12 years. Donna was a very successful model working numerous projects. A small sampling of her successes were, Liberty House Model, first poster girl for both the First Hawaiian Bank “The bank that says yes” and Primo Beer Marketing campaigns. Amongst all these accomplishments, she was a popular character actress in the original Hawaii 50 Series. Donna’ business career began at the old GEM Music store on Kapahulu Ave and she later managed the Kahala Music store where she absorbed a great love for Jazz and Burt Bacharach. She later moved on to successful sales careers with Paradise Beverages and American Linen Service Company (ALSCO) before retiring. Donna had a wonderful love of life, people and song. In recent years, she lived for her grandchildren. Nothing was more important. Donna is survived by her husband Randy Martin, her son, Kekoa Ornellas, brothers, John, Peter and Donald Gomes, Sister Annie Landon and two grandchildren; Noah and Sophia Ornellas. A memorial service planned for January 28th 2014 at the Star of the Sea Church. Visitation will be from 9:30am – 10:30am followed by Mass. A ‘Celebration of Life’ will be held afterwards at the Elks Club Waikiki from 1:00pm – 3:30pm. The family asks that in lieu of flowers, donations be made to the Susan B. Komen foundation.
