Roy T. Fukumoto

Posted On January 26th, 2014 -

1-26-596420---Roy-FukumotoROY T. FUKUMOTO January 7, 2014 Roy Fukumoto, 69, of Kaneohe, passed away at home on January 7, 2014 surrounded by his loving family. A veteran of the U. S. Air Force (Vietnam era) and former member of the Carpenter’s Union, Roy was a retired mail carrier, with over 30 years of service, primarily at the Hawaii Kai Post Office. He was a loyal friend, always willing to help others. He volunteered to deliver mail on Kauai immediately following Hurricane Iniki, enduring conditions that included a lack of electricity and hot water. He often helped family and friends man booths at various carnivals and festivals, and he was an accomplished fund raiser for charities and school projects. Roy enjoyed sports, and although he had no sons, he spent several years coaching Little League Baseball, first in Manoa with the little boys, then with teenagers in Kahaluu. He really enjoyed working with the boys, and after all these years, many still referred to him as “Coach Roy.” He was a member of bowling leagues at many different alleys throughout Honolulu. He also participated in many Hotel Industry Charity Walks and Great Aloha Runs. However, his favorite pastime by far, was fishing. Roy often took his family to the beach, where he would spend the day casting from the shore for papio and o’io, sometimes catching only eels and stick fish. But he didn’t mind; he loved to relax at the beach. Roy was a dedicated and very loving husband, father and grandfather, who always emphasized “priorities.” He will be forever missed by those who loved him so much, his devoted wife of over 44 years, Elaine; daughter, Laurie Ann Fukumoto-Padgett; son-in-law, Robert Padgett; and precious grandson, Jared Fukumoto-Padgett. Roy is also survived by a brother, four sisters, and several nieces and nephews. He was proceeded in death by his parents Harry (Nobuyoshi) and Mildred (Matsuyo) Fukumoto and a grandson, Ryan Hunt-Fukumoto. I Am Free Don’t grieve for me, for now I’m free I am following the path God laid for me. I took His hand when I heard Him call, I turned my back and left it all. I could not stay another day to laugh, to love, to work or play. Tasks left undone must stay that way. I found that peace at the close of the day. If my parting has left a void, Then fill it with remembered joy. A frienship shared, a laugh, a kiss Ah, these things I, too, will miss. Be not burdened with time of sorrow, I wish for you the sunshine of tomorrow. My life’s been full, I savored much. Good friends, good times, a loved one touched. Perhaps my time seemed all too brief Don’t lengthen it now with undue grief. Lift up your heart and share with me. God wanted me now; He set me free. (Author Unknown) Private memorial held.
