Joseph Warren Stevens, Jr.
1-26-595418---Joseph-StevensJOSEPH WARREN STEVENS, JR. A retired Major in the United States Marine Corps passed away peacefully at his home in Kailua on January 13, 2014. He was 86 years old. He was born on November 19, 1927 in Des Moines, Iowa to Joseph W. Stevens and Olive Brewer Stevens. He graduated from North Western Military Academy high school and the University of Arizona with a B.S. degree in 1951 and then became an officer in the USMC. He was a decorated veteran of WW ll, Korean and Viet Nam wars. He received various medals including the Purple Heart. After retiring from the Marine Corps in 1972 he went to work for Hawaii Job Corps for 10 years as a Placement Officer where he travelled through out Micronesia. He is survived by his wife of 61 years Kay and his 5 children. Sons Christopher (Bridget), Daly (Sharlyn) and Joseph (Dale) Stevens lll.. Daughters Stacy (Jimmy) Bruhn, Holly (Frank) Tam and 17 grandchildren and 20 great grandchildren. He was our special Hero and always said "Once a Marine, always a Marine". He will be buried with a graveside ceremony on January 28, 2014 at 2:00 pm at the Hawaii State Veteran Cemetery in Kaneohe. The family wants to extend special thanks to his devoted care givers Sina Moss and Anne Duncan and to the Doctors and Nurses of the VA staff and the Nurses of Hospice Hawaii. You made our loss easier to bear. Mahalo.
