2-1 598163   Stanley SagertSTANLEY SAGERT 93, passed away peacefully in Denton, Texas on January 25, 2014 and is now celebrating eternal life with his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. The funeral is scheduled for Monday, February 3, 2014 at noon at Trinity United Methodist Church, 633 Hobson Lane, Denton, Texas 76205, followed by burial at the Dallas/Fort Worth National Cemetery. Visitation will be held on Sunday, February 2, 2014 from 1-3 pm at the DeBerry Funeral Directors, 2025 W. University Drive, Denton, Texas 76201. Stan had a distinguished career in the United States Air Force. During World War II, he flew 50 combat missions as a B-24 pilot over occupied Europe. Piloting the B-24s he named Lassie Come Home and Lassie Come Home II out of North Africa and later out of Italy, he was shot down but was able to return to Allied lines to fly again. After the war, he served additional tours in Europe, Japan, the Philippines and stateside. His final assignment was on the staff of Admiral John McCain, Commander-In-Chief Pacific Forces (CINCPAC) at US Marine Corps Camp Smith in Hawaii. During his Air Force career he received many decorations, including the Purple Heart, the Distinguished Flying Cross, the Distinguished Service Medal, the Air Medal (w/4 OLC) and the Legion of Merit. He retired with the rank of Colonel. After retiring from the Air Force in 1970, Stan became President of Hawaii Baptist Academy (HBA). Working with friends and supporters of HBA in the state of Hawaii and on the school’s Mainland Advisory Council (MAC), he was instrumental in taking the school from one experiencing financial challenges to it becoming one of the premier private schools in the state of Hawaii. HBA now has multiple campuses and state of the art facilities providing Christian education for children in grades K-12 across the island of Oahu. To acknowledge his leadership at HBA, Stan was named President Emeritus upon his retirement. Stan is preceded in death by his parents, his three brothers, and Marjorie, his beloved wife of 62 years. He is survived by his four children – Penny Wagner, Marlee Armstrong, Stan Sagert, and Kris Obermeyer, as well six grandchildren and six great grandchildren. In lieu of flowers, memorial gifts may be made to the Stan and Marj Sagert Scholarship Endowment Fund at Hawaii Baptist Academy, 420 Wyllie St., Honolulu, HI 96817.
