She was born May 2, 1937 in Dryden, NY, the daughter of late Elnora (Smith) and late Erwin Hoaglin. She was raised in Lansing, NY. In 1959, she graduated from Cornell University where she met her husband of 55 years, David Garcia Cadiz. She is survived by her husband David (Kailua); her brother, Robert Hoaglin (Texas); her daughter, Shelley Cadiz Gonnella (Cary, NC), Shelley's husband, Mark, their children, Jordan Alan and Taylor Anne; and her son Alan David Cadiz (Paia, Maui), his wife Patricia (Burton), and their daughters, Cady Jane and Cloe Anabelle. Gerri's love of dogs inaugurated Hawaii's Dog Magazine, ILIO in 1977. The magazine provided Hawaii's dog community a platform to communicate current animal legislation, veterinary care, breed standards, and capture Hawaii's show results for confirmation, obedience and agility. Gerri's accomplishments and efforts with ILIO earned her the recognition of top honors from Dog Writers Association of America. Gerri held and served a variety of positions with Cocker Spaniel Club of Hawaii, Hawaiian Humane Society and she served as Chairman of Hawaiian Kennel Club. Being HKC Chairman was a great honor for her. She continually took steps to engage new dog owners, foster good breeding, educate, as well as recruit world renowned judges to officiate over the twice yearly shows. She strived to improve and maintain the overall well being of our local dog community. Visitation will be held at Nuuanu Memorial Park & Mortuary on Monday, February 10 at 2 pm with a service to follow at 3 pm.
