Emelio Lopes "Pops" Alvarez, 79, of Kapolei, a state maintenance technician and an Army veteran, died in Honolulu. He was born in Paia, Maui. He is survived by sons Emilio Jr., Wayne, Derek and John; daughters Charmaine Poki and Doreen Alvarez; sister Betty Roman; 18 grandchildren; and 17 great-grandchildren.
