JANET "JAY" KEALA LEN TAI BARICAR 63, of Kapolei, Hawai'i, passed away on March 29, 2014, surrounded by her loving family, devoted friends, and faithful pets after a valiant five-month battle with cancer. Her final viewing was held on Friday, April 4, 2014, as she was adorned by beautiful tropical floral arrangements; she was cremated that following Monday. Jay was born on February 20, 1951 at Queen's Hospital in Honolulu and raised in Kalihi Valley. The daughter of a Master Sergeant in the Army, she also spent her childhood years in Alaska, Colorado, and New Jersey. After returning to Honolulu, Jay graduated from Farrington High School in 1969. She received her B.A. from St. Leo University in Virginia in 1983, and later graduated from the University of Hawai'i at Manoa in 1995 with her M.S. in Social Work. Jay worked for the U.S. Army for a total of over 36 years in various positions, primarily as a Social Worker at the Army Community Service office, and later as an Equal Employment Opportunity Specialist. In her later years, Jay was very active in the Ulana Loko Maika'i lauhala weaving club, as well as in the 'Ewa Orchid Club. She also had a passion for making 'ukulele, lei, and numerous crafts for her family and friends, and enjoyed traveling and shopping all over the world. Jay is survived by her husband of 44 years Leo, daughter Lee (Micah) Nakadomari, son Jesse, mother Janet Gaison, sisters Jill (Wayne) Gaison-Ganiko and Jana (Wayne) Gaison-Terukina, five grandchildren, two great-grandchildren, numerous nieces and nephews, and her beloved dogs, 'I'ole, Keiki Koa, Honey Girl, and Yukiko. She is preceded in death by her father, William Kamahalo Gaison and her youngest sister, Jodi Gaison. Memorial and tribute services will be held on Saturday, May 3, 2014 from 5:30 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. at the Mililani Memorial Park & Mortuary, Mauka Chapel (Mililani Memorial Park Road, Waipahu 96782). Optional dress attire: semi-formal or business casual. Color scheme: black, gray, white, and/or Jay's favorite color, red. Flowers are welcomed and can be delivered to Mililani Mortuary on Saturday, May 3, 2014, between 2:00p.m. and 4:00p.m.
