DOREEN (HLUBOKY) MALAK Age 84, of St. Clair Shores, MI passed away June 17, 2014. Born October 8, 1929 in Honolulu, HI to McKinley HS math teacher & coach, Frank and Ollie Hluboky. Doreen was a 1947 graduate of Roosevelt HS. Preceded in death by her husband, Stephen R. Malak in April 2012. They met while he was a Marine stationed on Oahu. She is survived by her daughters, Kristine (Al) Brakoniecki, Robin (Jim) Large, Tracy (Karl) Brunsman and Wendy Giannetti; her eight grandsons, Adam, Aaron, Jimmy, Robert, Karl, Kyle, Kole and Taylor; sister, Frances Hluboky; brother-in-law Edward (Angie) Malak; and loving nieces, nephews and friends. Predeceased by her sister, Marjorie Walther, who died in Honolulu in January 2013. A private service was held for Doreen at Great Lakes National Cemetery in Holly, MI where she was laid to rest with her husband. Although she left the islands in 1951, she returned for many visits with family & reunions with former Roosevelt classmates. Her roots were in Hawaii, which was always in her heart.
